The World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) code, also known as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) code, is a unique 17-character code that is assigned to motor vehicles, trailers, and motorcycles by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The WMI code consists of three parts:
- The first three characters represent the manufacturer of the vehicle, as assigned by the ISO.
- The next six characters represent the vehicle attributes, such as model, body type, and engine type.
- The last eight characters are unique serial number that identifies the specific vehicle.
The WMI code is used by law enforcement agencies, insurance companies, and other organizations to track the ownership and history of vehicles. It is also used by manufacturers to identify and track recalls, defects, and other issues related to their products.
