Please join us this week as we chat with Marinda Griffin.
Marinda is the current Mrs. McKinney Texas 2021 and will be competing in the Mrs. Texas pageant from April 28- 30, 2022.
Not only is she active in the pageant world, but Marinda is also a full-time salon owner, CEO of the Wyatt and James Hair Company, founder of the nonprofit Wyatt and James Foundation, and happy mother of two boys.
1) How and why did you start the Wyatt and James Foundation?
One of my businesses, the Wyatt and James Hair Company, produces natural hair toppers and wigs. It just seemed like a natural extension of my work to create The Wyatt and James Foundation and give quality hair toppers and wigs to children, teens, and young adults that can’t financially afford them. These are beautiful, handmade, 100% human hairpieces that look stunning. They give confidence and beauty to an individual who suffers from alopecia or hair loss from cancer or autoimmune disease.
2) Have you drawn professional inspiration from other women? Tell us about someone who has inspired you
Yes, being in the pageant world has inspired me. It’s been so uplifting to see thousands of women from around the world, women who own businesses or are doctors and lawyers and parents but still make time to do it all. It’s inspiring knowing other women grind and work just as hard as I do to attain their goals.
3) What are the secrets to your success?
I never give up, and I never stop trying, no matter what life throws at me!
4) How did you persevere through the tough times?
My faith and family keep me grounded. They are my #1 priority; when those are in line, then I know I can work hard and push through any trials that may come my way.
5) What do you want to achieve next?
I want to become known for changing the lives of children and teens worldwide.
6) What are some of the challenges you face regarding catalyzing innovation?
Time! I want to move things along quickly. I know what I like and don’t like but starting a business takes time and patience.
7) What are your tips for growing a company?
Keep your priorities straight; there will always be tomorrow. Your company is no good unless you are at your best. Sleep, rest, nutrition, and keeping healthy boundaries will lead to success.
My favorite quote is, “You’re never too old to call your momma!”
