Common Pitfalls of Social Media Marketing

Social Media Marketing has become a very common and seemingly integral part of the marketing strategy of everyday business owners. However, there are common mistakes being made that can negatively affect your business as a whole. “ One of the most dangerous errors you can make is being overly promotional” says Dasha Amrom, social media is a great way to converse with your clients and potential clients in a more dynamic and meaningful way, but not to use as a sales platform and shove promotions down their throat. How many a week do we look in our mail, see promotional junk mail flyers, and not even give them a look, but toss them straight away into the garbage. This goes the same way for social media promotional offers.

According to Chris Marentis another common mistake that a lot of rookie marketers make is having a lack of data analytic’s . They take a look at the aesthetics of said platform rather than looking under the hood and being sure that they are measuring content and what is and what is not working.

One mistake that is far too common is integrating your own personal opinions and beliefs using a broadcasting platform of social media in that your clients and followers can see. This can bold very poorly on your company in that your opinions and beliefs can stay between you and your social circle, not your professional circle. You don’t know who believes strongly in what and may come across offensive and off putting.

Lastly, make sure you choose your audience carefully. Realizing that the more followers a company may have, the broader the audience is, the more potential customer the company may obtain. However, there are so many companies out there promising to get you 30k followers in 24 hours for a small nominal fee, but in reality its going to come down to quality over quantity. If your product is in a niche market, why have 25k followers when there is a strong chance that none of those people have any interest whatsoever in what your company is trying to offer.
