How Much Do You Know About Influenza and Its Symptoms?

Influenza is one of the most contagious diseases that can be easily transmitted from an infected to a healthy person. Caused due to the influenza virus, the flu has troubled millions of Americans over the years.

The disease in itself is not so dangerous, but the ignorant attitude of the infected person can prove fatal. Influenza, since it came to be recognized as what it is called, has caused hundreds and thousands of hospitalization and claimed a huge number of lives.

Influenza A, B and C are the common types, with A most prevalent in humans. Diagnosis of influenza flu can be easily done on the basis of its typical symptoms. However, your doctor may take a sample from the throat, nasal passage or perform a blood test to eliminate other possibilities. The test can also be conducted on the directions from public health officials to maintain stats.

Common symptoms of influenza are:

1. High temperature (Fever)
2. Cough
3. Constant Sneezing
4. Sore throat
5. Body pain
6. Fatigue
7. Headache
8. Nasal Congestion
9. Running Nose

These symptoms may be of a moderate level, and the patient may think of bearing the discomfort and pain. Without care, precautionary measures and adequate rest the symptoms can get more severe making the patient sick. The cure for influenza flu includes taking ample rest, lots of fluid and steam for clearing respiratory tract.

Severe symptom cases require clinical treatment otherwise the immune symptoms successfully fights flu and the body recovers in approximately three days. Often influenza is coupled with secondary infections that may worsen the case. Therefore, a thorough examination by the doctor is required to get a clear picture even in cases of moderate symptoms.

An indicator of such secondary infections is that in such cases the symptoms persistently exist and may worsen with time in spite of adequate care and rest. Hence, it is advisable to take advice from your health expert or physician if you feel any of the above-mentioned symptoms.
