LLMs are as useful to people who’re friends with formal languages, as…

…their auto-correcting ancestors to properly literate humans.

…the day after the obligatory demo of writing a poem in BASH or composing some outdated unverifiable info — that both look smart, and funny, lol…

But hey, it’s progress, right? I would argue that, not necessarily. I somehow view progress as perceived increase of human abilities. So, not being able to spell or to compose simple expressions — or even to use already extremely powerful formal-language-based systems — to me, is a step in the opposite direction.

It’s like healthy kids on wheelchairs — it’s a lot of fun to roll around, bumper-car-style, but if they play disabled for a little too long… some of them may like it.

The only actual use of LLMs — except for mind-voiding — for some properly educated people would be manipulation of the rest — through purposefully generated language content (brute-forcing the target audience’s critical thinking capacity).

On the other hand, the improperly educated, weaker people “using” LLMs (deliberately or unconsciously) — instead of feeling the healthy pressure to improve… the basic human skill of communication — will have their “mental” capacities decreased and their effective performance will drop — even further. But, with apparent complications of measuring IT system real-life-problem-solving-not-just-entertainment efficiency — out of a particular commercial bubble, among all the hype — this will go unnoticed, until… I don’t know… Zombies!

p.s. Some more of the Cap’n Obvious’: your real friends are… your real friends! Communication with them — using good natural language — is a source of happiness and prosperity for all intellectual levels. Anything that harms that communication is… surprise!.. harmful to you. Ways of resistance and upgrading human communication will be discussed shortly (it’s about self server).

p.p.s Sorry for the afterthought, but first, I’ll be releasing a practical addendum to this rant (hooray, sanity!), and then, when I said “…only actual use of LLMs…” above, I meant, that one use immediately prompted several related others, like, for instance, protection from that same LLM-charged manipulation (with LLMs).

p.p.p.s.
