Silicon Valley fetishises success, and it has fetishised failure. To see what that looks like, imagine the scene from The Ten Commandments when Moses comes down from the mountain with his stone tablets to find a riot of hedonists dancing in front of a newly minted golden calf. This is an inherently self destructive dichotomy. The blind reckless pursuit of fast wealth, with confused or debased personal aims, in an atmosphere of amorality, little or no perception of long term consequences. This is the reality of Big Tech’s iceberg. A shiny peak above the water. A mass of blunder, wasted wealth, and disrupted lives undeneath. I’m sure this character will soon enough hit the speaking circuit and make a fortune telling other wannabe startup emperors how failure was just another life lesson fuelling his passion to succeed.
