For me personally, the biggest takeaway from the reading entitled Cleaner, Smarter Spreadsheets Start with Structure was the part on header names. The article stated “Have clear and concise names for headers and use dashes or underscores in between words to make it easier to parse later on (ex: first-name instead of first name).” I think this was a big takeaway for me because I’m not the most clear and concise person. Hopefully I will remember this for future use. The biggest takeaway I had from Data Journalism Handbook was to know what questions I am trying to answer before looking at the data I have acquired. I am the type of person who could just play around on excel for a while before thinking anything of substance. I think knowing what I am looking for beforehand could help deter this from happening.

For my data visualization, I charted the amount of intimate domestic felonies in Manhattan in the year 2017. In charting that data I found that there were a total of 701 domestic felonies between intimate partners in Manhattan. Of those 701, 468 of them were female victims, leaving 233 male victims. The number of female victims was significantly higher than male victims.
