People participate on the basis of transparent information and high-quality communication systems enabling “resonance”. The most important contributing individuals are not leaders/managers but customers and other network partners. The more of them that are in active resonance, the more assets there are.
Everything in this post makes sense, but I’m left thinking about fairness. I use platforms like Twitter for the value they offer — like opportunities to connect with interesting people with diverse perspectives, and the sharing and remixing of ideas — but I’m frequently frustrated with the undemocratic nature in which the platform is run. And other platforms are run similarly if not worse (notably Uber). I wonder if the current platforms will evolve into something more democratic, whether others with such principles baked-in will come to the fore, or whether we’re stuck with hegemonic monoliths for the long-term, as well as what “we” (the users, the drivers, the content providers…) can do to help move things in a better direction.
Providing generative platforms from which resonance might spring forth is truly a great thing, but how much might we leave on the table if those platforms are out of tune?
