Kamala Harris, For The Veterans

Kamala Harris became the first candidate to release a comprehensive platform to service our veterans last week. I didn’t see much coverage of her plan on any major media platform, and despite a portion of the 3rd debate being devoted to veterans and active duty military, not a single question was directed her way, nor was she given a chance to speak. As a veteran I found this deeply frustrating, and I wanted to draw attention to it before it gets drowned out in the media cycle.

First, some housekeeping — though I am a supporter of Kamala Harris, and I am a veteran, I am not associated with her campaign or the Department of Veterans Affairs. And for folks that are hard of hearing — as so many veterans are, including myself — I have posted the transcript for this video on Medium. The first part of Kamala’s plan is to expand VA housing and healthcare benefits to veterans that were discharged with Other than Honorable conditions. Veterans can be separated under these conditions for a variety of reasons, though many of them are negative. But Kamala’s record is one of forgiving past transgressions and not letting them be barriers for achieving basic standards…
