Un-clunk your podcast editing, feedback and approval

Great podcast episodes require revisions, collaboration and consensus.

I’ve worked full time on podcasts since 2016. For me they’re the perfect intersection of production, imagination, flexibility and technology.

After years of cloud drive links, Google Docs/Word docs, email chains (many going way above 30 replies) and whatever else piled in, I thought there could be a better way.

That was a couple of years ago and I didn’t do anything about it. Just kept muddling through, trying to get a better system that worked with different clients.

Then it got too much. I saw how much time our production company was wasting just managing the admin and communication.

Rather than adapt something out there that wasn’t for podcasters I worked with a developer to get a web app made that’d handle revisions and approvals in one space.

What we’ve made is EpisodeCheck.com

Check it out here, because headlines on Medium won’t do hyperlinks.

Or check out the screenshots below.

Here’s the page where everything happens.

  • Share link to send to contributors
  • Episodes collated in left column
  • Below “Episode 1” heading is where you upload versions and collect feedback.

Once you’ve email contributors the link they see the same screen.

They don’t need to log in or create an account. But when they comment they are asked for their name. Once they hit comment you get an email notification so you don’t need to refresh or chase them up to find out if they’ve added thoughts.

Everyone can also add a time code to the comment. There’s a checkbox (see above image) and that creates a button (see below) that will play audio from that time. This was the first suggested feature from the first producers we asked to try it.

Once you’ve got feedback on version 1 you can make the changes, upload version 2 and get more feedback.

Ready to approve? Toggle the button on the version that’s approved.

You’ll get an email notification letting you know :)

Other handy things

  • All audio types are supported
  • You can download any of the files you upload so it can be an audio storage service.
  • Run an unlimited number of projects/podcasts from one account
  • Edit the version titles

We’re working on other features and tweaks to make it as useful as possible for podcast production.

Episode Check works for;

  • Podcast production companies and clients
  • Podcasts with a team of two or more
  • Branded shows where approvals are necessary
  • Editors/creative directors approving multiple shows
  • Networks with central editing capacity
  • Feedback on audio advertisements

Like to give it a try?

Go for it. Free to join and get started with a project.
