Recruiter Secrets Revealed
A matchmaker, career coach, negotiator or simply a listening ear, our recruiters at Cox do wonders in helping candidates find their perfect job. In a world competing for talent and interviews, we sat down with a group of Cox senior recruiters to find some of the best advice they share with candidates.
Secret # 1: Make it Plain
“When reviewing resumes, it really helps us when the candidate makes it easy to understand what they do,” said Jacqueline, senior recruiter of 10 years for Cox. “Sometimes a candidate will list skillsets on their resume that are too specific where it doesn’t tell a clear story of what they do or want to do.”
Secret #2: Let Your Personalities Shine
“At Cox, we want to see your personalities, no need to be super buttoned-up!” said Renae, senior recruiter of 10 years at Cox. “Share with us what excites you and areas where you have hands-on experience. In the interview, it’s important that candidates feel comfortable with us. We love hearing about your experience but more importantly we ask questions to learn more about how you, the candidate, are the best fit for the role that the hiring manager has in mind. It’s a great way to have dialogue about what you’re looking for in a new opportunity.”
Secret #3: Don’t Be Afraid to Talk Money
“Give us a number that you want!” Renae explained. “Our priority is to understand how we can best support you, your quality of living or relocation. Not to mention our employee benefits include a 401k, competitive PTO and our offers are equitable. So be upfront and honest.”
Secret #4: We Love Referrals
“It’s simple — good people know other good people and what better way for us to recruit incredible talent than through our brightest employees at Cox,” said Talent Acquisition Consultant Eddie. “When selecting your referral, think about those who will speak highly of your work ethic; it’s always helpful.”
Secret #5: Keep Your Profile Up-to-Date
“For me I enjoy engaging prospective employees through LinkedIn,” shares Harris, senior talent acquisition consultant. “With job boards, there’s so much activity as the competition is fierce for attracting talent. So, it’s nice to tap people who are selectively interested in new opportunities. It’s also helpful to review resumes and LinkedIn profiles to learn more about the candidate’s experience or cross-check areas that may not be listed on their resume.”
Secret #6: We Act with Integrity
“At Cox, we pride ourselves on providing a great candidate experience,” said Renae. “We are professional and believe in doing what’s right. And truthfully, the hiring process can take some time, however our goal is to make both the candidate and hiring manager happy.”
