how to chop a leek

step 1 Place the leek on a cutting board and cut off the tough green ends. Do not cut off the root end (this will hold the sections together for washing and chopping).

step 2 Slice lengthwise almost through the root end (leave about 1/2 inch uncut).

step 3 Turn the leek a quarter turn and cut again lengthwise from root.

step 4 Now that you have these cuts you can easily peal back the layers and wash the leek under cold water.

step 4 Return the leek to the cutting board and begin to chop, to your desired thickness, from the green end.
