XenServer vs Proxmox

Lately I’ve been hooked on XenServer despite the need for XenCenter but I find myself playing with Proxmox as I write this. Let’s do a quick comparison:

XenServer

  • Professional (commercial backed but open source)
  • Great management GUI (requires Windows)
  • Great hardware support
  • Easy snapshots, live migrations, remote storage
  • It just fucking works

Proxmox

  • Less corporate
  • Web GUI by default
  • Containers (not Docker though)
  • UI doesn’t give me much confidence (VNC viewer is janky)

I’ll fuck around with Proxmox for a while then probably run into a minor problem and run back crying to XenServer.
