There are all types of gimmicks advertising as “The best way to make money with your CPU”. Most of them are either schemes or downright dangerous (malware), so it can be a muddy path to trod.

Since Crypto has started to go mainstream though there are more legitimate opportunities to make money with your CPU. The main one has been XMR (Monero), but it has not been profitable for quite awhile, in fact for some people it actually costs you more to mine it than you can sell it for.

Raptoreum has made it again possible to make good money with your CPU.

How does it work and is it safe?

Raptoreum is a proof of work (POW) Cryptocurrency at its base, in addition the team has added a unique algorithm called “GhostRider”. I won’t go into depth on it, but the math behind the algorithm is brilliant and what makes it resistant to ASIC and FPGAs. This is important because if either one comes onto the network CPU become obsolete. The whitepaper on the algorithm is very interesting if that is your thing:

Mining is quite simple, though it may not seem so at first. You download the miner, grab a wallet, make one small edit to the config and double click. Is it safe? Yes. Raptoreum is a reputable project around since mid 2018 and the miner contains nothing malicious or harmful, anybody can go through the source code and check for themselves.

Raptoreum as far as I can tell is and has been the most profitable CPU coin in Crypto for months. In fact I think it is probably the most profitable thing you can run with your CPU.

What is happening when you mine?

You can think of the Raptoreum blockchain as an open and public ledger of transactions built of blocks. Each block must be solved (mined) and when it is pending transactions (in mempool) are added to the block and become permanent and irreversible, accepted by the network.

The miner you are running connects to a mining pool, which is a pool of other miners all working to solve blocks before other pools. Currently there are over 4000 miners mining Raptoreum and 15+ mining pools. When your pool solves a block all miners split the reward for that block (3750 RTM) and are paid by the pool depending on the work there miner submitted for that block (shares).

Ready to start making some money with your CPU?

Let’s do it!

What you need to start CPU mining RTM (Raptoreum):

Zelcore: This is a multicurrency wallet that supports Raptoreum and you can download it here: Zelcore.

The CPU Miner: The best miner program for Raptoreum, get it here: RTM CPU Miner.

7zip: Needed to unpack the CPU miner: Get 7Zip.

1.) Install Zelcore and add Raptoreum.

To do this when you first open the Zelcore wallet click on:

Add Asset:

Find the Raptoreum logo under Coins and click it:

Now on your overview at top where it says Payments you will see the RTM logo, click it to open the Raptoreum specific screen. Leave the wallet at that point and got to step 2.

2.) Install 7zip, download the miner and extract it by right clicking the miner and selecting Extract here (or if you like extract to a location of your choice).

3.) Open the cpuminer-gr folder and you will see a bunch of different files such as AVX, AVX2, Zen, Zen3, etc. Now you need to know which one you should use for your CPU. Intel based CPU may be AVX, AVX2, AVX512.

AMD may be Zen, Zen2, Zen3. I believe SSE42 is older Intel and AMD Bulldozer model CPU. An easy way to see is download HWinfo and check the summary, it will show which ones your CPU supports. Higher number = better performance, example AVX512 is performing better than AVX2.

4.) Now that you know which file to use open the .bat file as an example zen2.bat. You will see this:

Go back to your Zelcore wallet and click on Receive:

Click on the address to copy it, replace the address listed in the .bat file with your own. WorkerName you can change to anything you like or remove it, if removing also remove the . At the start. WorkerName is a way to identify a specific computer on the pool, handy if you have multiple PC mining and monitor their progress on the pool.

Now to the end of that line add — tune-full (that is 2 dashes) to the end so it looks like this:

The full tune takes 115 minutes and during that time it is not mining so no coins are earned. But it is 100% worth taking the time to do, once it is done tuning it will automatically start mining.

5.) Run the miner & reboot.

Right click on the .bat file (not .exe) and Run as administrator, this is required for the miner to setup Huge Page Files which is a performance enhancement as well as MSR. Once it starts running stop it with Cntrl+C > Y > Enter. Reboot your computer and start the miner again like you did the first time.

That is it, you are mining and earning Raptoreum coins. Depending on the pool it may take 3–5 hours for your coins to start showing up in your wallet. Remember pools are competing for blocks and it may take your pool awhile before it wins a block, after that the block has to mature for about 200 minutes before the rewards can be paid out.

How do you turn Raptoreum into cash?

I recommend that you do not, instead you can put them into Raptoreum Smartnodes and those coins instead will earn you passive income for as long as you leave them there (I cover this later in this guide). But if you absolutely must cash out you will need to convert RTM into BTC (Bitcoin) or LTC (Litecoin) which can than be sold on an exchange that serves your country for your currency (USD, CAD, etc).

If you do not have an exchange for converting BTC or LTC to your local currency you will need to look for one. Google for something like Buy and sell Bitcoin in <your country here>. Make an account and verify it, they will ask you for some documents (KYC). Once that is complete you can convert Raptoreum to BTC or LTC, send that to your local exchange and convert it.

Where to sell RTM for BTC or LTC?

I will list the busiest exchanges for RTM > BTC and RTM > LTC only to keep it simple. You need to make accounts on these exchanges but do not need to verify (KYC).

RTM > BTC: https://main.southxchange.com/Market/Book/RTM/BTC

RTM > LTC: https://tradeogre.com/exchange/LTC-RTM

Should I HODL or sell?

If you do not know HODL is Crypto slang for hold. Many people will hold their coins if they believe a project is strong and has a good future. Strong projects will usually climb in value fairly quickly some of them even going 100x their current value. I cannot say what you should do, but a sound strategy is to sell enough to cover any costs and keep the rest until the price climbs to a target you set.

Passive Income With Smartnodes

Smartnodes are servers which maintain a full copy of the Raptoreum Blockchain. They process transactions, server copies of the Blockchain to other nodes and wallets, and most importantly protect the Raptoreum network from attacks. They will also later store and execute smart contracts. For these services Smartnodes are rewarded by the network. Each Smartnode requires 800k RTM as collateral (soon increasing to 1 million RTM). These coins remain in your possession but are locked when making a Smartnode, this shows commitment to the network. You can unlock them anytime, but when you do you stop receiving rewards.

If the full collateral is too much for you, you can put your mining rewards into a shared node service such as https://inodez.com/. Minimum is I think 10k RTM. You are rewarded a % of the Smartnodes rewards based on how much you put in.

You can see current Smartnode reward amounts here: https://inodez.com/stats/ (Daily Node Rewards). That number is dynamic and will change some as new Smartnodes join (reduce) or Smartnodes leave (increase).

So how much can you earn?

It can be hard to judge as price and network difficulty do change which directly effects the bottom line. I will give a few examples which are accurate as of right now:

Ryzen 3900X: This is probably the best bang for buck mining RTM. Gives about 3100H/s which converts to 1908 RTM/day and that is currently worth $2.57 USD. That is exceptional for CPU mining!!

Let us now compare to Monero (XMR). The Ryzen 3900X gets around 13800H/s on Monero which translates to about $1 USD.

Now for fun lets add some passive income from Raptoreum Smartnodes into the mix.

Period of example will be 30 days mining with a Ryzen 3900X.

RTM Earned for 30 days: 57,240 = $77.10 USD.

Monero Earned for 30 days: 0.09825 = $30 USD

Sell 1/2 of the RTM and put other 1/2 in Smartnode:

28,620 RTM sold for $38.55 (still made more than selling 100% of the Monero!)

28,620 RTM put in shared node, now earns passively 62 RTM/day. This converts to $2.70/mo. That purely passive, does not seem like a lot but lets extend the time to 6 months for fun.

RTM Earned over 180 days: 343,440 RTM = $463 USD

Monero Earned over 180 days: 0.59 XMR = $180 USD

Total RTM made passively over 180 days:

First 30 days: Acquiring

60 days: $2.70/mo

90 days: $5.40/mo

120 days: $8.10/mo

150 days: $10.80/mo

180 days: $13.50/mo

So now after 6 months your monthly mining income + passive for that Ryzen 3900X is $52.05 + you have 171,720 RTM ($252 USD)stashed away. Compared to the $30/mo on Monero. Starts to make sense right?

Assuming you are using iNodez as a shared Smartnode provider you need also to factor in a 6% fee for their service. This comes out of your monthly payouts.

This post is to demonstrate Raptoreums profitability next to the most widely mined CPU mineable coin Monero (XMR). Do not expect to do the math here and come out with the same numbers. Raptoreum may be less profitable or much more profitable, the numbers are dynamic.

Who should be mining Raptoreum (RTM)?

If you have a CPU you should be mining it. Keep in mind the bigger the CPU L3 cache the better the CPU performs. This makes AMD processors the reigning hashchamps on Raptoreums GhostRider algorithm. But that by no means, means that you should not be mining it on other processors, it is just a bit less profitable. There are people mining it on ARM devices as well.

Gamer? Hell yeah mine it!! You can configure the miner to use only a certain amount of threads. I game and mine at the same time without issue. When your done gaming crank it up to use all the threads.

GPU miner? Hell yeah mine it!! It will not interfere with your GPU mining even if you let it eat on all threads.
