According to the GMAC, almost 5900 business programs across 2100 universities and institutions around the world, accept the GMAT score for admission. But does that mean you should also follow other and do what they are doing that is taking up GMAT. Well, why not find out which is better for you. It is obvious by now that GMAT is for business school and as it is accepted by most of the universities it is preferred the most over GRE. But the GRE is basically for graduate school application but nowadays some business schools are also welcoming the GRE score but GRE is still recognized for graduate school and Ph.D. programs.

Despite the truth that GRE isn’t a traditional Business School entrance test, there are some benefits attached to writing the GRE. The testing pattern of GRE and also the syllabus of GRE is quite different when compared to the GMAT exam and many students feel that few topics of the GMAT exam are tougher than that of GRE.

Let’s see the difference:

If you are doing your online GMAT preparation you must have noticed that GMAT consists total grammar and sentence structure based questions but if you are struggling with grammar and logic based questions, then GMAT is not your forte you should go for GRE as it focuses on vocabulary and a little bit of logic.

If you are thinking to start your preparation for GMAT you must know that the mathematics section is tougher in GMAT compared to GRE. This, however, doesn’t mean that Math is easy in GRE. This difference is there because the GRE has mainly focused on diverse test takers, varying from engineers to doctors to arts and history students looking for diverse graduate programs. Hence, the math for GRE has to be simpler and more approachable. But on the other hand, GMAT focuses on business school applicants and Business courses demand much stronger quantitative skills, thus the GMAT math is tougher. So, if math is not your cup of tea, you might benefit from GRE. But remember the fact that you’ll have to face some tough quantitative problems and cases at Business School so if you are thinking business school then GRE is not for you you should go for GMAT.

If you have seen any mock test of GMAT you must have noticed the analytical reasoning section which is a combination of verbal section and data interpretation with some strong quantitative analysis. But this section is not there in GRE so if your goal is a business school but the reasoning is not your thing you might go for GRE but the reasoning is very important for business school so, you might want to reconsider your choice.

It depends on you what exam you want to choose to give but before starting your preparation make sure you know what your goal is if your goal is business school then you should go for GMAT exam as the syllabus is structured to prepare you for business school. But if the availability of authentic study materials is the matter then go for GRE as it is easily available because ETS GRE site has authentic study materials that will help you prepare.
