BrewDog are coming

The exceptionally successful Aberdeen based brewery BrewDog — leaders in the UK Craft Beer industry are coming to set up in Liverpool, after a political hiccup that could have doomed the idea.

BrewDog have a reputation for pulling beers apart, adding all kinds of different ideas to the glass and challenging the mass flavourless beer market. One of these ideas has been to brew stronger beers, up to Belgium style strengths and well beyond, some comparable to whiskey strength. It was this that nearly caused the brewery to stumble.

In a bid to curb criminal behaviour the council, licensing authority, police and local MPs have recently been denying applications from new bars for numerous reasons. Interestingly this has not led to a reduction in alcohol related crime.

Local opinion has stacked in BrewDogs favour with #BrewDogLiverpool trending on twitter.

Violence and any other criminal behaviour needs to be addressed. Taking on BrewDog rather than certain established premises that require dozens of doormen who constantly have to break up fights probably isn’t the best approach…

With the Craft Beer sector steadily growing even in the face of thousands of pubs closing, it is great to hear that we will be getting a venue where quality will come first. Interestingly, BrewDog serve some of their beers as 1/2 and 1/3's — further removing the idea that BrewDog promotes irresponsible practices.

I for one am looking forward to the arrival of the bar, which will complement the current greats like The 23 Club, The Fly in the Loaf and Bier — to name but a few.

See you there.
