What gives the apps and websites that shape our everyday lives their user-friendliness and intuition? Central to this discussion is user-centred design, a methodology that focuses on the needs and desires of the user. The aim of this article is to create a deeper understanding of design and also to explore, using a fictional case study, how user-centred design creates an effective connection between user and product.

To illustrate the effectiveness and importance of user-centred design, I have chosen to demonstrate steps in this process using a fictional case study based on real problems. My focus is on a product specifically for teachers in German primary schools. The decision in favour of this topic is not accidental. It comes from media coverage and frequent complaints from parents, pupils and teaching staff. These groups regularly express concerns about the challenges in education, particularly in the context of digitalisation and the associated demands.
