The results are in. La-La-Land has won best Oscar. Oh wait, we’re talking about the beer awards and that happened a few months ago. Sorry about that.

The results are in from the 2017 Beer Awards and taking home the best lager honors is a British beer, Hofmeister Helles.

Hofmeister was a favorite beer during the 80’s and 90’s over in the UK, but the brand retired in 2003 due to its low alcohol content (it was 3.2% at the time) and falling sales.

The beer relaunched in 2016 with the same name but an entirely different taste thanks in part to the brewing being done outside the Ebersberger Forest in southern Germany, at the brewery Schweiger.

During their previous run, the beer was brewed in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The new Hofmeister is brewed using the “Reinheitsgebot” purity law, which restricts the ingredients of beer to only water, hops, and barley. The natural spring water and local barley that’s being used help give the beer a clean, crisp taste at a higher 5.0% ABV.

Heading into 2018 you can expect to see more failed brands both in the US and internationally relaunch, as there seems to be a growing trend towards the nostalgia beers of yesteryear.

The Bear is back for seconds.
