You suppose that A) brains can be accurately emulated by software simulations — and B) that you could “replace” people’s brains by these software simulations.

I’ve not seen any evidence that that either of these are, or can be, the case — indeed the point of the article was to note that such assumptions are merely that — assumptions without good empirical or theoretical grounding.

That doesn’t mean that these things are intrinsically impossible—and I’d be amazed and delighted were they to be possible—but merely asserting them on the basis of some questionable and unsubstantiated analogies does not make them true.
