Metacognition and The Writing Process

I’ve never given much thought to how I think, but will start doing so after reading this. A few minutes reflection just now led me to find that, while I do see images in my mind, the overwhelming content in my mind is words — not seeing them with my mind’s eye, but hearing them with my… mind’s ear? There is a constant thrum in my head, multiple tracks of language, usually coherent but sometimes not. To write I have to focus my attention down to one voice and get it on the page. The “talking” seems to come first, then the images, then I have to focus to describe the images as best I can.

Anyway, thanks for this interesting news — I’ll be looking into this more, if I can get everybody to shut up a while.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
