I’m also going to guess that Foursquare would look at their own user info. In other words, if former Foursquare users were no longer using it (say the number of users decreased) they would see decreases across the board. I’m assuming that their number of users has either increased or remained steady over the past several years. Otherwise your question would be very valid – “is there really less foot traffic or are there simply fewer users to report foot traffic?”
