From my “Late Night Study in the Study” study

The Yaqui Indian known as Don Juan once told Carlos Castaneda to “always keep death over your left shoulder.” I believe he gave valuable advice. But sometimes, late at night, when I’m especially tired, I’ll glance over my right shoulder, at my books, and remember all the life that’s simmering inside them. Then I’ll go to bed.
