I wouldn’t recommend following any specific “technique” or “set of instructions.” That easily tends to over complicate things.
Just sit somewhere. Comfortably (no lotus or any complicated pose required) — just sit. On a chair if you want. And breath. Just that. Breathe. Try to keep the focus on that. You will lose it sporadically, of course, and other thoughts will come. Don’t fight them. Don’t resist. Let them come and then let them go, just as if you were sitting in a train station looking at trains passing by. Thoughts are the trains. They come, they go. Your breath still always remains. Keep going back to your breath. And that’s it. You don’t need nothing else. Groups of people around can be nice, but again, not required. All you need is your breath. As long as your breath is there, that’s all there’s to it. You breath = you are meditating = you are keeping your mind calm.
