Are you sick of constantly feeling stressed out everytime something goes wrong? Do you aspire to learn how to overcome obstacles in life with resiliance and ease? Attract less stressful moments and attract better moments? Look nowhere else!

Car break down? Late to work? Got laid off work? Another appliance not working? Flight cancelled? Luggage lost? iPhone died? You start the day off with a mishap and the rest of the day follows suit? The list goes on and can get worse.

My car broke down recently with groceries in the back and a doggy with a full bladder at home. We had just moved to town so we didn’t have any available friends to help. I called my insurance’s roadside assistance for help. They were going to be TWO hours before they could assist us! Argh! Are you serious? TWO HOURS? What about the trunk full of melting groceries! Our doggy needs to go potty! What’s wrong with my car now? What do we do? Were we miserable? In the past, we would have been…until we learned this!

Now this situation isn’t the worst, but you will get the idea on how to apply it to most situations.

In this post, we’ll look at five effective methods for finding inner calm and reducing stressful situations. You can alter your perspective and feel more at peace and quiet by implementing these techniques into your everyday routine.

1. FIRST! Deep breath in and release

Yup! Big cleansing sigh! One of the easiest yet most powerful methods for reducing stress is to take a deep breath. In addition to increasing your body’s oxygenation, deep breathing also sets off the relaxation response, which lowers the production of stress chemicals. Put your eyes closed, take a few deep breaths through your nose, hold them for a moment, and I tend to just let it come out with the force of a balloon! Ahh! That’s what I needed! Repeat this procedure a few times, allowing oneself to relax and accept a tranquil state.

This helps your mind get out of the way and let’s your inner wisdom take over. You mind will stress you out while your inner wisdom will come to the rescue with what you need to know and do next.

2. Recognize reality AS IT IS!

Frequently, our PERCEPTION of a situation — rather than the ACTUAL circumstance — is the REAL source of stress. Try to perceive things objectively, without interpretation or bias. Remove yourself from any emotional responses and take a step back to consider the information objectively.

I will tend to say, “Well, that just happened” , “It is what it is” or “Oh, well” or “At least _____ didn’t happen.” or just LAUGH and make lemonade! You will be able to comprehend the problem more clearly and approach it with greater balance and reason by doing this. Always keep in mind that it is our interpretation of the circumstances — not the facts themselves that leads to stress.

What is your stressed interpretation?

So like I told you, my car broke down recently with groceries in the back. We didn’t have any available friends to help us out of the situation. No one to jump us, get the groceries out and into a refrigerator, no one to let the dog out. I called my insurance’s roadside assistance for help and we were going to have to wait 2 hours before they could assist us!

So we just looked at each other and said, “Let’s eat!”

We went and enjoyed some lunch nearby; sat outside and took in the gorgeous May weather. What happened to the groceries? Luckily that day I had put them in thermal packing to keep them cold. Our dog was left at home. We were like, “Ah, she’ll be ok!” And she was; no accidents. But if she had, we just clean it up.

Roadside arrived and couldn’t start my car and then left us with our dead car saying we would have to call my roadside service AGAIN for someone else to tow it. Then we noticed we had cables in the car the whole time!! So we asked someone else to jump us just in case the roadside assistant’s jumping unit wasn’t working. Nope. Still dead. I used my insurance provider’s App AGAIN to request the tow. Um well…now that would be another 90 minute wait.

So instead of complaining and sitting in the hot car, we said, “Let’s go shopping!”

During this whole time, my iphone was dying and had to stay in touch with my roadside assistance. I had to cancel other plans I had with a friend, we had to forgo other chores planned for the day, risked our groceries would spoil or melt or have a couple of doggy accidents to clean up when we got home. But, instead, I was thankful for many things that day!

MY GRATEFUL LIST: I didn’t have to pay for the jump that didn’t work or the tow (the tow man was really nice too) | My partner knew what was wrong with it and could fix it at home | We got to spent all day together | We found a nice mad to help us jump the car and the tow truck man was really nice | It was a beautiful day outside!

Before we learned better ways to handle stressful events like this one and others, he and I would have blamed others for our discomfort or each other for whatever reason we could find, complain about the wait time and how inconvenient it all was for us, be short tempered with roadside service and each other, have it ruin our entire day, and miss the wonderful opportunities to enjoy the day dispite the situation!

What did we learn? Well, that we should have seen the signs of my car’s starter dying. That having the thermal bag for groceries was a great idea! Call the insurance company instead of using the App. And I know there will be other things I will find out later that was positive from this event. There always is!

3. Concentrate on the Positive

It’s simple to focus on the negative aspects of a stressful situation and what went wrong like my partner and I used to do. After or even during your predicament, you may be itching to tell everyone on your Facebook feed or text your friends about how inconvenienced you were. I’m still guilty of that for entertainment purposes; a good laugh — this is what happened today rather than hoping for people to jump on our soap box and empathize with our victimhood.

On the other hand, as you can see by my example above, focusing on the positives can have a significant positive effect on your general well-being. Consider the advantages of the circumstance or any minor successes you experienced for a minute. Whatever your accomplishments for staying positive may seem to be, be proud of them. You can develop a more positive mindset and lessen stress by recognizing and appreciating the good one moment at a time.

4. Let it go

It’s natural that things won’t always go as planned in life; you can expect that. Train your mind to look for the positive aspects of difficult circumstances and let it go rather than lingering on the disappointment. What lessons can I draw from this event, you ask yourself? How can I improve and advance? Adversity frequently helps us tap into our inherent resilience, wisdom, and power.

Accept the chance for personal development and consider each challenge as a stepping stone to a better future.

5. Show gratitude for your life’s journey.

An effective strategy for lowering stress and fostering inner tranquility is GRATITUDE. Spend some time each day being thankful for your life’s journey so far and the lessons you have learned; even the hard ones that got you to this moment. Whether it’s the help of loved ones, a stunning sunrise, or even the smallest pleasures in life, list three things for which you are gratefulin general or in this difficult moment. As you read above, I listed several that day that I was grateful for!

You may cultivate a good mindset and attract more joy and abundance into your life by changing your attention to thankfulness.

And on top of all of this! If you study the Law of Attraction, whatever you complain about you bring about. I have experienced this; the negative and the positive! Be careful of how you react as you will get more of the same the stronger your emotion is.

If you get out of bed and stub your toe, be careful how you react. You might see more inconveniences of the same throughout the day, if your emotions rise from the stubbed toe.

Here’s what you do for example:

  1. Breathe
  2. So you just stubbed your toe it is what it is.
  3. Be glad you didn’t break it.
  4. Let it go and think “I will be more careful next time”
  5. Watch the beautful sunrise while the pain subsides..and have a great day!

You will start to experience a considerable decrease in stressful situations after you start incorporating these five techniques into your regular routine. Never forget that achieving inner serenity is a journey that calls for perseverance and introspection. Embrace the process and exercise patience with yourself and others.

You have the ability to alter how you feel about stress and build a life that is peaceful, joyful, and resilient.
