There are numerous things that must be considered in order to choose the perfect wedding cake, right from selecting the flavour to design, size to the number of tiers and so on. It is important to be careful about the taste as well. Traditionally, the cake is one of the most important requirements of every wedding ceremony. It is said that a newly married couple shares their very first official “sweet” bite by cutting the cake together.

The first thing to factor in while picking the right cake is to check different designs. There are numerous designs available both in the local confectionery shops as well as over online sites. However, there has to be a collaboration between you and your kuchen designer. The cake must match with the theme and venue of your marriage ceremony. For instance, if you are going to have a royal themed wedding reception, then order a 3 or 5 tier cake with a monarchical look. There are basically two main wedding cake designs, that is, traditional and contemporary.

Other than finalising the design of your desired wedding cake, it is also important to think about the flavours and fillings of it. Always opt for a flavour that you people are usually fond of. Make sure that your guests like the taste of your wedding cake too. Avoid flavours like peanut butter, coconut or bananas, as many people don’t like them. You can opt for something yummy such as chocolate or vanilla for filling up the tummy of all your invited guests!

Another important part of selecting the cake is to choose an appropriate icing. Icing can’t be selected by tasting it alone. So you have to be very much careful while making the final decision. There are some common yet popular icing options offered by most of the wedding cake makers in Brisbane. Some of them are –

  • Royal Icing : This icing is done using confectioner’s sugar and egg whites. It hardens after drying fully. The icing is not used to cover the whole cake up, instead it is generally used for adding a polka dots, lattice work, small flowers, beading, etc.
  • Butter Cream: As the name suggests, this icing is made up of butter, sugar, cream and vanilla. The icing can also be upgraded by adding other flavours according to your preferences. However, it is suggested not to use buttercream for an outdoor summer wedding because butter may melt due to heat.

So without getting confused while choosing the cake for your big day, simply consider all the aforementioned tips in advance.
