Rosen: a real maverick in philanthropy

Last night Harris Rosen again challenged the community to embrace his maverick approach to giving during the Jones High School Senior Awards night. During the event, Rosen awarded 15 seniors from the Parramore neighborhood with scholarships.

Below is only a snapshot of last night and Rosen’s philanthropic impact in Orlando. For the complete story on Parramore and Tangelo Park go over to http://thecharitymag.com/real-change-and-hope/ to see the entire story Charity Magazine published last year.

Bottom line is that Rosen has personally given around $11 million to the Tangelo Park project and now he’ up for his next challenge…Parramore, one of Orlando’s most challenging neighborhoods.

Here are a few things I’ve learned since meeting Mr. Rosen last year. He’s humble, doesn’t let naysayers slow him down, quickly recognized his time to give back and his uncanny desire to remain personally connected with his giving. There’s almost a mysterious way he approaches philanthropy, not reliant upon data or other funding models to make decisions. Again, Rosen solidified his genuine desire to remain personally connected with his giving as he remained seated on the front row in the Jones High School auditorium for the entire scholarship award celebration last night.

He understands the needs of the Orlando community and years of work it will take for true transformation. And by his actions he’s not slowing down anytime soon.

Rosen’s character qualities have led him to great success in business and philanthropy.
