An introduction

As we slowly make the transition from WordPress to Medium articles that were written years ago come back into the spotlight, and there are some that we will re-publish on this platform, as their messages resonate as much now as they did during their conception.

Firstly, however, we think it only polite to introduce ourselves before inundating you with our works! The purpose of this collective is to highlight humanitarian issues via a creative lens, whether that be a short story, poem, play, the list goes on. As one of the founders of this group wonderfully put it, it is a ‘forum for writers of all abilities and backgrounds to inspire each other in our pursuit of writing about human rights and its complex interplay with politics, social issues and human behaviour… Above all to utilise the immense power of the written word, to inform, provoke debate and ultimately entertain.’

Simple as that really.

One of the ways we showcase these works are through events that we host at the Human Rights Action Centre in Shoreditch, East London. Our last event spoke about the horror of Female Genital Mutilation through performances and readings, followed by a discussion on ways to eradicate the alarming procedure. Our next event is the 25th October 2016 at the Amnesty International Human Rights Action Centre, where we will be honouring a campaign by Amnesty called ‘On the Move’ through, you guessed it, creative mediums. More details regarding said event will be published here, so do keep an eye out!
