Invest in briefing legislators and elected officials. There are a surprisingly large number of policy makers who care about enabling social movements, typically due to one of their own connection to one or more grassroots organizations.

What do you do about elected officials that suppress emerging social movements because they see that as a threat to national security? This is the case in Malaysia, where the Government has been coming after Internet activists and media platforms (even Medium!!!) and are working on censoring the Internet more and more because they don’t want any sort of dissent.

Our activists have been working on this since the days of Friendster and Blogger if not earlier. Whatever Twitter et al wants to do with their platform isn’t nearly as important an issue as what the Government does.
