Eternity of Thought
An introduction to another perspective
As I sit at my makeshift study I have finally convinced myself to compile my various thoughts, musings, and opinions into an online blog. Partially because I believe that I have important shit to share. However, upon further contemplation I realize that the idea that my ideas are important and unique are not novel or rare. Almost everyone on the planet believes their ideas and values are important and worthy of sharing. This led me to the conclusion that simply believing my thoughts to be important was not worthy of starting a blog. My belief was even at it’s best all this blog would become is petty and unnecessary display of self congratulatory narcissism.
(which is probably what it will become anyway)
However, upon further reflection the idea that brought this blog into reality, the genesis of blogging, was that I had sitting before me an ability that very few humans in history have had. The ability to have a part of my consciousness live on forever.
(petty narcissism on a grander scale but it’s part of who I am, what can I say?)
Throughout most of recorded human history a persons ability to exist beyond a few generations was nearly, if not completely, impossible unless they achieved something extremely remarkable and noteworthy. This was due to many factors ranging from energy poverty, the fragility of materials available, and the unpredictability of a pre-industrial world.
Luckily for me (heh) I am able to etch my thoughts into cyberspace until the end of time or until WordPress gets shut down. I doubt either of these things will be happening within the foreseeable future (a long ass time) so it will be very similar to an eternity barring some catastrophic corporate breakdown at the WordPress Headquarters. these musings will leave their mark on the world long after I put effort into it. This blog in its simplest form is an exertion of power over the world in a way that was, and still is, unavailable to many. It would be wasteful of me to not take advantage of an ability denied to billions of others.
