The Future Of Education
PS: I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO WRITE and THIS MAY NOT EVEN MAKE SENSE
So much for the future of education..
“Creighton you are the worst fucking leader ever!” screamed one of my promoters. There inside I felt like shrinking, escaping, and giving up. I felt the instinctive urge to run away, or yell back: I had reached my maximum amount of frustration I could no longer be frustrated at myself. On top of this I was suffering from the cold. This could potentially what would look like and constitute for a ‘tough day’ in business. Have you perhaps ever had a tough day yourself?
The matter of fact is, being human, means we inevitably have both the up’s and down’s in life. The world is so full of complexities, that often the people who are able to simplify and debunk these equations plus apply it into the real world, are the ones who ultimately are known to be successful. They see past the veils, and facades to see only what is real.
Due to the fact that many do have the ups and downs of life, there is a quote I often live by I don’t particularly remember at this point in time but it went something along the lines of “If there is one thing you can’t trust in the universe, it’s nature. You might be so happy one moment when you hear someone they love you, or you receive that text, or feel good because you got the result you wanted. Do not be fooled. You don’t know what’s coming, and often it is the negative proportion of nature that will stick fear, anxiety, anger, sickness, criticism into your body like a bank robber. Or it will catch you tired, and slip poison in the shape of procrastination, and worries into your mind just when your feeling awesome. You must be prepared.”
The degree of general and deep suffering you have probably seen in the world whether that be on the news, books, experiences or in your own life need not statistics. It’s fucking easy to be negative, it’s equally just as easy to feel good about ourselves by coming up with excuses to feel this way. SO if we had to get deep and somewhat abstract: what is the meaning of life in order for us to embrace the polarity which is so evident in the world? Is life really just like a passing scene in a movie? Is there just an illusion that we are in control of something when we’re not? Or really are we so powerful that we can barely fathom the extent in which the human spirit can achieve? Is it both?
Shedding light upon education is this. EDUCATION IS THE ANSWER to these questions. Wisdom, logic, intelligence, whatever you call it. And the one thing that is certain is this: Traditional schooling is perfectly teaching a world that no longer exists. Education in my belief is the power of independent thought. Independent thought that uses logic, that uses practicality and most importantly independent thought is the power of taking the greatest asset that one may have. The human mind. Today’s world, especially in Australia, we are probably in the biggest education bubble that has ever existed. Countless of studies done by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has shown that 26% of undergraduate university students will be unemployed 6 months after receiving their ‘hat,’ 35% of college graduates will be working in jobs that don’t actually require a college credential, and in America alone, there is a rapidly growing number of 12,000 of both janitors and taxi drivers working with a PHD degree. Whether its big corporate companies like the Lehman Brothers that had existed for over a century to Blockbuster being toppled by smaller, nimble start-ups like Netflix, the world is moving at exponential rate. To put into perspective the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, and the human civilisation has only existed a mere mere 100,000–150,000 years old. A percentage of 0.000000002%. A dust.
The truth is that humans are growing, and expanding so rapidly through technology and knowledge we can barely keep up with ourselves. We are under huge amounts of unconscious pressure to keep this intensely accelerating growth up. The matter of fact is, is that traditional schooling is not adequately preparing the next generations with these changes. With power comes great responsibility. My greatest fear is that we are not giving the education of independent, and creative thought to students. We are an environment that breeds conformity, and cramming in facts and not the power of letting the student be responsible for learning what he/she wants to learn. There is a skills gap between what is being taught to what you actually need in the real world.
Today I see many educational entrepreneurs from the likes of Jack Delosa https://www.the-entourage.edu.au/the-crew/jack-delosa/ whom i see as a thought leader in entrepreneurial education to Dale J. Stephens http://uncollege.org/ who promotes the need of more practical education, to one of the most famous accounting firms in the world Ernst and Young removing the criteria for a university degree as a pre-requisite to getting a position. People have started to take notice of the university bubble of high levels of debt being unpaid from HEX, to the populuar adage that you ‘have to, should, or must’ go in order to be successful. Although there are many benefits to university and college may be platform to building skills you can only learn in Uni like medicine, law etc, and can be used as a great place to network plus party, its interesting how so many successful people have taken a different route. And no I’m not recommending everyone to drop out, be Steve Jobs or be the Bransons. What I am suggesting is that I believe and I’m hugely hypocritical of this is that students today don’t have to be an entrepreneur but develop an entrepreurial mindset, have a definite purpose in life, backed up with the neccessary life skills of clear decision making, deliberate prtactice, and emotional mastery are some examples of what it takes for the future of education to be more fulfilling and rewarding for all!
This movement is growing. With the pace of innovation and competitiveness thats going on in the world however this movement is not growing fast enough. The world is secretly begging for someone damn crazy, and courageous enough to build reform this education farce. This “HIGHER EDUCATION” farce that originated in history over 500 years ago started off on the wrong foot anyway aiming to benefit only those who could afford it.
These weekly blogs has one definite purpose. That purpose is to help educate university students on both the inspiration and practicality of what it takes to build a fulfilling career. The mission of LotusX is to elevate humanity through truth, love and consciousness. Whether that be developing your unique purpose, or conditioning your mind for success, planning or people skills, one thing is clear that was so eloquently stated by Ralph Waldo Emerson
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
We are here not to change you but to help activate more of you.
Be brave, be you, and most importantly be like a LOTUS. Even though you may be surrounded by mud, by the negativity, by much challenges in the world, come forth courageously and do the thing you fear most. Stand out and be.. like a Lotus Flower.
The answer to the addiction we have for problems is that we’re not good enough. We’re just ‘missing’ something. Screw it. Lift the veil, you are not good. NO, Your great enough as you are for your quirks, your strengths and your mission! Go out there and consider it done!
