Many developers also seem to forget that CSS is *cascading*. Somewhere along the lines, somebody said, “don’t style IDs, they’re too specific. Style class names instead.” Suddenly, people are using the classname as a hook to style one-off elements and you end up with a dozen selectors that do the exact same thing (+/- a small variation unique to that instance).

Learning the methodolgy behind BEM is good, but you also have to know that it’s not just a naming pattern to access your one-offs.
