Artyom Anoufriev and Nikita Lytkin, dubbed the Academy Maniacs, hated society and humankind. After obsessing over the techniques used by serial killers Alexander Pichuskin and the Ukrainian serial killers dubbed the Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs, the pair went on their own copycat murder spree, resulting in injuries to 15 people, six of whom died.

Arytom & Nikita Childhood

Arytom grew up in a dysfunctional family with a mother who often humiliated him and taught him to hate everyone and everything around him. He was a social outcast beginning in fifth grade and did not have any friends.

Nikita had much more of a normal life, although he was raised by a single mother. He, too, was deemed a social outcast and lacked a large friend group. His mother blames his early life of crime on his father’s absence.

Arytom found a home for his hate when he joined a white power-skinhead group in Russia. As a member, Arytom participated in a nationalist demonstration called the Russian March.
