Is Mt. Everest haunted by ghosts and supernatural phenomena?

It’s not unreasonable to think Everest is haunted by ghosts. Over 150 dead bodies line the mountain, most in The Death Zone. The bodies are permanent reminders of the dangers Everest presents to anyone who attempts to summit the peak, all hopefuls who died trying.

The harsh conditions on Everest make retrieving the dead bodies nearly impossible. Many of the bodies have been part of the mountain for 30 or 40 years or more. The climbers were left to die alone after illness, psychosis or other problems prevented them from continuing the trek.

Maybe those climbers seek to avenge their deaths.

Stories of supernatural phenomena, ghosts, and strange things going on atop Mt. Everest are commonly shared by climbers who’ve successfully made it back home alive after the 14-hour-plus climb into the most extreme conditions.

Perhaps the stories are true, if only in the minds of climbers who reached extreme elevations and possible mental psychosis related to -60F temperatures and lack of oxygen to the brain. Maybe climbers made up the stories because their adventure to the summit was not as exciting as hoped. Or maybe ghosts are real and Mt. Everest holds secrets only a few will ever discover.
