This event was organized in order to raise awareness of the crisis in Venezuela and raise funds for migrant families living in Cúcuta. Funds were raised through cryptocurrency donations, illustrating the benefit of using digital assets to exchange value and send money where it is needed most. We at Cripto Conserge believe that cryptocurrencies can be exchanged and operated like any other currency in transactions at the level of “el pueblo.”

This event raised $18,000, exceeding the $10,000 goal. The funds were distributed among three nonprofit initiatives including rebuilding Fundacion Renacer. Fundacion Renacer is , a non-profit a school serving Venezuelan children whose families had had to flee their native country.

Literally and figuratively bring him down, #juntoslotumbamos

cryptograffiti described his latest work, as a charity piece that was auctioned off online through a live stream in Colombia. The mural, constructed entirely of 1,000 bolivars, was painted over with a portrait of Nicolas Maduro, the usurper of Venezuela whose power has been constitutionally challenged by opposition leader Juan Guaido since January of this year. In the painting, Maduro’s mouth is censored with a blue bar bearing the hashtag #AirdropVenezuela, an nod to the political and economic repressions the Venezuelan people have endured while also applauding their ability to persevere through this hardship.

The auction came with a deconstructive twist, one where with each donation, a bolivar from the mural was torn off by a cryptograffiti himself or a Venezuelan citizen. Broadcasted from Cúcuta, Colombia, a city bordering Venezuela, the cross-border protest allowed the Venezuelan refugees to vent political frustrations and simultaneously attract donations for aid.

The sponsors of the event were cryptograffiti and Airtm.

We at Cripto Conserje provided organizational support and our standardized lessons for hands on use of the technology with our partner crypto merchants. The event took place less than two miles from the border with Venezuela on February 26, 2019 at the establishment of Fundación Renacer, a daycare which was recently shut down by local authorities for lack of required operating conditions (no roof, floor, bathrooms, lights).

This event had two phases: The pre-event development and its execution.

Pre-event development

The event that was planned in short notice with resources from its sponsors, which were allocated to the implementation of the logistics of the following items: lease, cleaning, electricity in order to have an adequate site and maintain sound quality; 2 lines of wifi-hotspots were acquired with sim card for streaming; hiring a photographer, equipment for mounting the mural, ladder, recruitment of security personnel, canvases, brushes, batteries, laptops, pens, contract chairs, Airtm and Cripto Conserje t-shirts.

Additionally, 150 kits of food , juices, soft drinks, snacks, sandwiches were distributed.

Execution of the event

The event began at 11:30 AM in the morning, the main guests at the time were Fundacion Renacer staff; children and their mothers. For this first group an introduction to crypto started by reading a children’s Bitcoin story; it explained what is bitcoin, how and why mining happens.

After this short intro the children where given reference crypto art and based on these images children were asked to be create their own expression of what they understood onto paint and canvas.

Adults were taught the basics of cryptocurrencies, types of storage, computers, cell phones, internet, mnemonic phrases, private key and public key, the subject was mainly focused on paper wallets. It was observed that of all those present, only 3% had a smartphone.

Children and adults were shown how to use paper wallets. They used paper wallets to make transactions (purchasing the food kit) and they were surprised that a document can represent your money.

Of the 50 participants, 8 were already aware of the term “cryptocurrencies” and how transactions are carried out.

The mural that was placed made an impact on them, after the presentation was finished, each person approached with his or her pen or pencil to leave a thought about what each one felt about the situation in their country and how it affects them in all personal areas, family and social, as well as their longings and hope this situation is over and they can return to their country to live in peace and harmony that is the longing of every human being.

It should be noted that in this event there were moments of uncertainty as people crowded into the entrance, however; it was proceeded by explaining to them that only 50 more people can pass.

The event was successfully completed. Donations came from all over the world including the CEO of ShapeShift.io.

A streaming was coordinated with the Human Rights Foundation and published on YouTube, Instagram and Twitter, and the event’s webpage airdropvenezuela.live.

So far, $18,000 has been raised in donations, exceeding the goal of $10,000. The funds were split to help Airtm with their AirdropVenezuela.org campaign and Cripto Conserje to help rebuild the daycare for Venezuelan refugees, Fundacion Renacer, where the event was held.

Around the Corner:

Our events have helped us understand how to safely deal with large crowds in Cúcuta. It was part luck and part providence that lead us to work with Fundación Renacer. We had previously worked with them and other local schools donating food, water, and tablets purchased by David Hay as part of our original project Crypto Cúcuta.

As we had already established report with Alejandro founder of Fundación Renacer, we knew they were perfect cause to support for the AirdropVenezuela.live event, the total raised was 2 BTC for the purpose of rebuilding the school and reopening it with a charter to act as a regional crypto hub as suggested by cryptograffiti. The total funds needed to get everything done is +/- $65,000 USD so we need about $53,000 to reach that goal.

We have plans to create a refugee cryptoart museum as part of the school, where the art the children create can be sold as NFT’s such as the one bellow where the buyer can choose to pay for the physical piece or leave it at the school as part of the museum. This idea about a museum is from members of Blockchain 4 Humanity.

The children would know how to create their own NFTs for their own profit and the school could use the art created at the school to continue to fund future operations. There will obviously be more funding needed to operate the school in perpetuity and the fund could be raised through future events and collaborations with new partners such as Athena Bitcoin, The Artist Liberation Front and others.

All donations go to funding additional projects that feed and help refugees through cryptocurrency education and adoption in Cúcuta, Colombia and the rest of Latin America.

The Cripto Conserje team is also working with children in the area to create crypto art and make each piece into non- fungible tokens (NFT’s) that they can sell on opensea.io and other online marketplaces. Eventually they hope to sell other things made by the refugees, including edible mushrooms they will train refugees to grow, feed and sell to help themselves. Growing a sustainable economy of by promoting products sold for crypto.

We are also exploring the school as a place to safely reach more people on using crypto since they will naturally be going there to drop off and pick up children, the location is also across from a church that feed nearly 3,000 people daily. We feel this would give us a better platform for our future events.

Thank you for your attention and support and a speacial thanks to everyone who has helped us get to this point, this is just the beginning.

~Muchas Gracias
