I was about to buy these, when I noticed all the comments and complaints. Contacted Sony, this was their answer.

“Thank you for your interest in getting the MDR-1000X. We are aware of the issue and we have a specific team that handles this concern.”

Followed up with a warranty question. Their reply:

“We are aware of the reviews and complaints of the users for this model. Rest assured that Sony will follow warranty processes if the unit needs to be repaired.”

Not quite sure what to do. These replies are definitely somewhat reassuring, but the prospect of being without headphones for a few weeks shortly after purchase, even if they do cover the repairs, is not very appealing.

I wonder what percentage of users are affected. Is it 1%? 10%? 50%? :)
