Listened to a BBC programme at about the same time as reading a book on the evolution of English language (not THE English language since it does have its differences across the World). Contributors to the BBC show, a Swedish who does way pointers, noted how English continues to evolve because it is the 2nd or 3rd language for many and use it differently. He said do not confuse complex with complexity — they are different words with different meanings. Same, do not confuse simple with simplistic.
Orwell always wanted simple language not simplistic; he explained complex ideas and was not afraid of complexity. 1984 pointed to the manner people understand and then feed masses complexity in a simplistic manner.
Always dig behind words since now people do hide — matrix instead of table, strategy instead of plan, operative instead of worker and on. Morten’s underlying theme of being able to explain complexity and ask questions to get further explanation is the key. But when people dumb down and use the rhetorical tricks to hide a lack of substance behind the call for applause, then ask so where, exactly, is the understanding of the complexity?
