The irascible deconstruction of the reconstruction; the return of Fascism
There is widespread knowledge of the existence of anti-American factions right here on our own soil! Groups are allowed to thrive that in no way support the doctrines of the Constitution and our sacred, if unspoken, vow to provide a nation-as-safe-haven for all colors, creeds, cultures, and religious beliefs. Why are militias, comprised of persons representing the very antithesis of the principles for which we stand united, permitted to remain here? Are they not traitors to the cause? Have not too many dedicated Americans fought and died to preserve the way of life these hobos of the True Dream so blatantly refute?
Just like terrorism, perhaps it is time to rid our nation of the leech-people who only tear down and “suck our blood,” while building nothing in return. The symbols of unacceptable and defeated institutions (Confederacy, Nazi, KuKluxKlan flags, costumes and imagery) ought to be outlawed. The persons who resist, refuse and dishonor our Pledge of Allegiance, should be forced to leave the United States or, be imprisoned in foreign countries, who we will pay to take and keep them!
The Continuing Saga of the “I want something for nothing” American Dreamers!
Going back more than 100 years, big business was under-capitalized. The Industrial Revolution was already in full swing. So was the immutable transition of a rural agricultural nation turning to city life. Factory, mass production type employment became the primary means of support. In those days, the Stock Market was the main artery for a company needing an infusion of operating cash to get on its feet. A company with an original, innovative idea, a sound plan to apply it, the integrity and managerial skills to pull it all off–did a public offering. Capitalized by peoples’ hopes and dreams, represented by their hard-earned cash, the doors opened and jobs were created. Ultimately, things seemed to be churning (bad word!) in the right direction for all parties concerned.
Of course, there was a lot more substance to the program back then, than what later evolved. Greed, corruption, quick buck philosophy, to name a few, skewed the process. By the time the next big boom, high-tech, was introduced into the mainstream of the workaday world, big-time fantasies of wealth, security, commodity and unbridled consumption were well underway. What I call the “I want something for nothing” school of investors emerged out of the cracks of dwindling savings accounts. Millions were infected by the desire for a free ride on the backs of their portfolios. Fat chance!
The undeniable indelible stimulus-response reward system of greed, avarice and exploitation
As the various Gold Rushes had proven time and again, only one prospector in thousands will actually strike it rich. However, as always, the moguls of multi-media will tout an easy, effortless path to riches. “It sells papers,” as they used to say. Unfortunately, such deception turns out to be quite costly for most believers.
When the “market” becomes over-saturated with suckers, after securities (and commissions) have been churned, re-churned and churned again, the natural ways and means to slow things down occurs. It’s called “Crash & Burn”. When that happens, (almost) everything goes back to virtual zero. 1929; 1987; 2008… to name but a few national disasters to be ultimately bailed out by taxpayer bucks. Oh well, that’s Show(off)Biz!
The irony of killing that which we love; the place where we live: Earth and our communities
Human Beings have the incredible brain power to construct bridges over waterways, tunnels through mountains, oil refineries, chemical plants, etc. How is it we fall so short when it comes to constructing any effective devices that might contain resource depletion, pollution, the poisoning of watersheds? Apparently, the Powers That Be, in the hands of an infinitesimally small group of sick, insane individuals, are immersed in an unchartered sea of competitive greed and, pathological over consumptive practices. Their sickness has such depth as to not be concerned with the continuing survival of their own progeny!
The rest of us don’t even count. Except as a necessary work force, we do not exist in the minds of Ownership. I know people need the work. Jobs maintain our very survival. Yet, in the larger picture, that which supports us is also killing us in the long run. It is surely a paradox! It causes much consternation and deserves deep concentration for remedy.
Distraction; misdirection;
For example, obsession with celebrities, the ongoing mesmerization with lifestyles of the rich and famous… these are distractions from thoughts concerning our own better interests. During the Great Depression years, the movies were filled with men in tuxedos, women in fantastic gowns, all slurping expensive cocktails, endlessly partying in unbelievable mansions filled with elaborate furnishings. This “art-form” was created to maintain our sense of Hope. Insomuch as most of us were living in unemployed poverty… wealth still did, in fact, exist–at least, somewhere, anyhow.
As a magician captures our attention with his left hand, while applying the “magic” with his right. On a societal level, we are misdirected toward concentrating on elements that are far from any solutions. Mostly in the realm of creating fear, anger and hate… it is really a dis-unifying factor in sustaining the status quo, for those who profit by keeping us in our separatist mentality. Divided we remain conquered.
Disinformation; apathy and moral decay
The Great Depression, immediately followed by World War II, left little on no headspace for social awareness on the Homefront. The post-war backlash of domestic considerations, in conjunction with the baby boom, left hosts of unattended issues, with which half the population, now teenaged, could occupy itself. Hence, the socially active sixties.
Rosie the Riveter and Jim Crow had proven to be invaluable assets in our nation’s defense of liberty. Basically, both sects had had enough of their second-class citizen status. Given our unprecedented numerical superiority, Civil Rights and ERA were somewhat inevitabilities. They would have, no doubt, occurred during any generation. The boomers, in their great numbers, just made it a little easier and less stoppable. The groundswell of social change lasted a good 15–20 years. But, even the boomers got sick and tired of protest and, while enjoying the boomerang effect of sexual repression-in-reverse-mode, slipped into a state of social consciousness in dis-repair.
Meanwhile, through the ongoing dissemination of disinformation, as ever, media and industrial moguls continue their eternal effort to convince the rest of us to keep a “what can I do about it?” attitude of hopeless despair. A social dynamic in which the prevalent sense of an impossibility to gain any ground exists… no matter what we try. That becomes quite fatiguing, unless exchanged for a less demoralizing, less deleterious condition, known as Apathy. Not as painful and easier to swallow.
Disinterest in history; the inability to learn meaningful lessons and their concomitant outcomes
Nothing I am implying is absolute. It is not directed at 100% of the populace and is not 100% correct. Nothing ever is. I am simply noting some pretty obvious trends. One need not be a genius or deep researcher to see what’s going on here. “Ya don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows…” That was how Bob Dylan phrased it, in one of his countless poetic contributions to awareness.
However, in the efficacious process of distraction; through the overwhelming caches of disinformation, it takes powerful curiosity nowadays, to pursue truth and accuracy. That is, presumably, History and its analyses. Most young folk default to “why bother,” when they should be asking “why not???” How to be popular; dress like a pop-star; have more sex and be better at it; own the right car; these interests are much more popular and pursued. Things like survival of the economy, job availabilities, the consumer value of a dollar, environmental concerns, even gun laws… all seem far and away, second place in significance and interest.
Individual inferiority complexes adding up to an international dilemma; depression; drug abuse; escape from reality and suicidal ideation; the insidious philosophy of “nothing to lose”;
Abreaction to feelings of inadequacy, sub intelligence, lack of talent, known as inferiority complex, is often exhibited by a preponderance of aggressive behavior in various forms. Bullying, verbosity, power-mongering, over-consumption, the need to show off… are some exponents-in-response. E.g. our current U.S. Pres is a pot pourri warehouse of anger, irascibility, lashing out, over-bearing, pre-pubescent schoolyard name-calling, etc. He looks like a classic case.
In my own lifetime, I’ve seen a tremendous metamorphosis take place in the realm of therapeutic analysis. When I was a kid, if you felt depressed your doctor handed you two aspirin and suggested you go take a nap! I think I’m only kidding. I do know back then it was not so over-diagnosed as a culprit caused by the physiological boogie-men of brain cell deficiency, and treated with a military-like mental invasion by mood altering chemicals. It seems less and less the domain of psychiatric journeys back in time through childhood memories. Societal pressures and shortcomings are hardly ever recognized as the causes for one’s not feeling up to par. Today, the whole problem can be solved with a good ol’ trusty mortar and pestle… a pharmacist’s license.
Too much has already been said about drug abuse. Most of it baloney, too. But, I’m gonna let that big old sleeping dog lie, for the time being. Besides, I’ve written tons on the subject myself. Suffice to say, it is closely related to the three sub-titles I used: escape from reality; suicidal ideation; the insidious philosophy of “nothing to lose.”
These little (not so little) pieces of a society in trouble are indicative of fundamentals being ignored and/or pharmacalized rather than seriously treated. Realizing full-well that certain ideas are incongruous to the ideals of freedom, as stated in the Constitution, any changes in law must be made surgically. Yet, that is what Amendments are all about.
In the future, there will be laws regarding truth and accuracy, both in fact and implication, around product advertising. Teensy weensy fine print and inaudible disclaimers will not be adequate excuses to “push” bullshit products unto an unsuspecting populace, who are and ought to be too damn busy to be forever deciphering between truth and lies mostly about unimportant superfluous absurdities in consumerism.
I know this is a touchy subject, although it’s nothing new. Look at marijuana laws, old prohibition law… un-Constitutionality is not something we have not experienced before. The expanding destructive impression of our living, more and more, without any form of representation or ability to change the elements (social, economic, environmental) that affect our lives daily, is depressing in and of itself!
