Talking About Mental Health

I’ve struggled with anxiety since I was 7. For the longest time I chalked it up to being introverted and shy but it all flared up as soon as I got to college and agoraphobia held me hostage for four years. I got help last summer and today I feel comfortable for the first time. I think there are two very difficult sides to the anxiety stigma: one is that it’s belittled- thought of as silly or a sign of personal weakness, and the other is that it is incurable- horrendous and something you’re destined to struggle with the rest of your life. It is horrendous, this is true, but it does not have to be permanent. Even though it runs in my family and even though I had been struggling with it for nearly 20 years, when finally given the tools to cope with and ultimately prevent this fear I felt that drastic shift. Behavioral therapy through CHAANGE.com is how I got started and it’s based in California, but they offer some great books (free downloads) on their website. Thank you for not only addressing anxiety, Ollie, but for taking an extra step to point people toward answers.
