Hello, everyone! My name is Caelan Ulke, and I am a sophomore at Grove City College, studying Communications and Marketing. My freshman year, I came to GCC as a Political Science major, but I quickly decided that it wasn’t the field for me.While pursuing Political Science, I felt that I really needed to be passionate about that field and be willing to give my all to it, so I realized that a future career in politics did not really seem to interest me. I decided to switch my major and add a minor with the hope of pursuing a career in some type of event planning or marketing field. I am also involved with Young Life on campus, so I am still open to the possibility of incorporating ministry into a future career. I’m hoping that this discipline will equip me with what I need to achieve a career in the future. In today’s society, I feel that “the media” is everyone’s source of information. To me, the word media almost brings about a negative connotation because it seems that more and more people are looking to media for everything they need instead of normal human interactions, whether that be social media or the basic media. Typically, most people associate “the media” with a younger demographic, but I think that “the media” is effecting all walks of life. Whether it’s where we get our news from, our latest celebrity gossip from, or even our newest recipes from, “the media” has become our source of everything we need. On the other hand, I think media has really allowed our culture to progress. Being that all different sources of media can be found right at our fingertips shows that we are making a lot of advancements towards the future. People are able to get all of the information they need exactly when they want it.
