Our dear Cryowarriors! Once again, we are happy to provide you with the recap of the second gaming AMA, held on the 11th of April in Discord, with Alessandro Ciavola — CDO and co-founder of the mighty CRYOWAR! And of course, let’s not forget to mention the special guest that joined us — Mariyan Boychev, our well known CFO and co-founder. The community had put down their thoughtful questions in Discord and they were all answered with a great amount of enthusiasm on our end!
STILLZ: Hello guys! STILLZ here. I am extremely excited to be the host of another major event here, on the Discord server. I am currently, with the Cryowar’s Chief Design Officer and one of the founders — Alessandro Ciavola! But be sure to stay until the end as we have a special guest who will tune in after we finish up with the meaningful questions you guys have asked. So, let’s not waste more time and dive straight in. First things, first. How are you, Alessandro? How are you feeling?
Alessandro: Hello STILLZ, everything is going well! We had finally developed some major features fully this past week, and we are working hard to bring a lot more content to the next beta test.
STILLZ: Awesome to hear this man! We keep pushing hard and aiming for top-notch results as usual! We are a hundred times more motivated to see our community appreciating our effort and it drives us to push forward! Thank you, guys, for sticking around. It warms our hearts and means the world to us! Special shoutout to all of the mods and the active community members, some of them, even, are here right now. Cheers guys! We are strong when we are together, and up we go! Now, starting off with a question regarding the character design, added by Kira.
“1. On what basis did you choose character designs for this game? There are no identical characters of one category or another, so it’s interesting to know how many people worked on developing the theme and design?”
Alessandro: Actually, all our characters are designed by the same person, our concept artist Boris. They are different to appeal to different tastes so everyone could choose which hero is their favourite. We will release many more heroes with unique styles and gameplay skills. The main idea is to always create something original, without following the classic characters’ clichés.
STILLZ: Sounds amazing! Everyone would be free to express themselves with a unique set of characters which is the general idea and a super important aspect of the game. Moving to question number 2 submitted by Morin. We have been getting a lot of these, but of course, spoiler alert — opportunities are always available for the best community ever! Anyways, here is what Morin wanted to know.
“2. Now that the second closed beta test of the game is underway, the next open beta version will be this year. And will there be a raffle of places or an opportunity to get to the third pre-open beta test another way?“
Alessandro: To this moment, we invite the most active users and people we think would greatly help us with useful feedback and new ideas. In the coming months, we will have even more opportunities for people to try the game.
STILLZ: Well, as I have mentioned many times, guys, an active community member always gets rewarded! This has been our vision for a long time now, and as you know, many of the most active members have had some goodies along the way, and we have shown that we genuinely care about our community which is obvious by the constant activity on every social platform, that is 24/7. This is top-notch, the least to say and we have always been close to our community on every stage so far! The third question we have chosen. This one will give us some clues about the focus of the dev team on the further enhancement of the characters.
“3. Do you plan on finally bringing mechanics, models, and abilities to the game, or will you update them later or overtime? So, to speak, make various updates that will add new things and constantly change the old.”
Alessandro: It really depends on what mechanics we’re talking about. Characters won’t probably change unless they are unbalanced. We will update their skins and other cosmetics, and parallel to that, we will be focusing on implementing new characters as a complete package with their skills, animations, and more. I can say that more gameplay mechanics will be introduced with new game modes.
STILLZ: Amazing, amazing stuff! Super excited! There is so much more material yet to be released! Amazing! Question number 4 by Mohdri. Mohdri has been very supportive of our community. He has won a Closed beta slot and streams regularly; he is super excited every time I see him live! On top of that, many people have had a blast watching him, and Mohdri is getting a decent audience every single time. I would like to highlight the fact that Mohdri is not part of the team. He has been supportive and genuinely likes the game. Thank you, brother! And here is his question:
“4. Will there be tiered (multilevel) arenas?”
Alessandro: We have prepared something similar. Arenas slightly change the layout to fit multiple game modes, and in the future, we’d rather release more arenas with different settings and layouts in order to increase variety and content.
STILLZ: Amazing! Mohdri, this means more streams and more content for everyone! Win, win. Everyone will be happy! The fifth question is by CryptoJem and iOS users. You can take a deep breath now! This one you have been waiting for, it goes like that:
“5. Will the game be available to play on PC? Or just android? I heard rumors that there were problems with iOS so is it more than likely for the game to not be going there?”
Alessandro: Problems with iOS were purely logistic. We are close to getting an iOS version working in the next few months. A PC version is actually always ready for internal testing, but we are currently focusing on mobile because that’s where the UI and controller are the most complex and difficult to use. We thrive to achieve a great user experience for each user on every platform.
STILLZ: Nice! Fellow iOS users, you heard it loud and clear, nothing to worry about, as I have mentioned numerous times in previous similar events! CryptoNFTManiac has the honor to be the 6th chosen person. That is quite an interesting name, not going to lie, but the question is very thoughtful, nonetheless.
“6. Will the game include some sort of balancing that will make sure you don’t constantly lose games just because you’re only playing once in a while? A league could help here. If you are down on the list, you play against people who are also less of a gaming/Cryowar experts.”
Alessandro: As previously mentioned, we are using the ELO ranking system to assign ranks to each player. We already have leagues, and we use them to reward players as they reach the top of their own league. This is a competitive game, and for this reason, every rank and league the player reaches is a great accomplishment and should be rewarded as such.
STILLZ: Awesome stuff Alessandro! As a competitive player with a huge background in many competitive games, this is what I wanted to hear! Sounds reasonable and would motivate the players to grind and have fun along the way! Totally on point! Svensson Hanna is our 7th pick and wants to know something more about the open-world conception.
“7. Is it planned to have an open world in the game, or will everything work through choice?”
Alessandro: We don’t have any plans on releasing an open world map, but still, many ideas are on the table, and after release, we will be happy to decide together with the community where we want to focus our efforts next.
STILLZ: I hope this brings light to everyone! Of course, the opinion of our community is what matters the most! We have always listened and gathered ideas from you guys! Moving to the eight questions by Zi now:
“8. Following the feedback from the betas so far, what do you plan to do more of, do less, stop, start or continue?”
Alessandro: Overall, the feedback is very positive, and I’m happy about it. We plan to have more beta testing to make sure the combat is even more user-friendly, balanced, and interesting. Therefore, our focus on the next closed beta is to ensure that our combat system is finalized, and after that, we will start testing progression and networking, which would require a lot more people.
STILLZ: Possibly the best answer we could have hoped for! We have created a google form to ensure that everyone who has been a part of the beta, will have the scene to express their opinion and ideas. Speaking from first-hand experience, the feedback has been top-notch and beta testers had a blast! Coming in, on number 9 is SenseiStreams, he has a good question, and the answer will give us a lot of clarity in regards to the team’s plan for the official launch.
“9. My question is, are you guys planning to release at a specific time when ready, regardless of the market, or do you plan to release at a time of excitement in Cryptocurrency.”
Alessandro: Launching the game at the right moment is important, and that’s why will take advantage of a professional competitive analysis to evaluate the time of the year, other games, and the crypto world.
STILLZ: Good to hear this. We have professionals only in our team and things will be done to perfection! Number 10 is Chulo:
“10. Will the outcome of a fight between two characters be decided based on the player’s skills or character attributes? How will you ensure a fair balancing of each character in the game to prevent non-talent-based competition?”
Alessandro: Cryowar is a skill-based game. Character attributes are only used to create a different gameplay style and they do not increase in our current design as our aim is to create a fair, competitive game. At the end of the day, we are all passionate gamers who played the most competitive games on PC and mobile, and we are happy to take on such challenges when designing Cryowar. We are making sure that the game will be accessible, and if you have noticed, our game modes are designed to do so. The 1v1v1 system was chosen for this reason, to allow every player to prevail even if he wasn’t the strongest. Short match times, fast respawns, and the many objectives are all features we carefully choose to let players play the game without thinking too much about losing a match because you’ll be fighting again in just a few seconds.
STILLZ: Thank you Alessandro for the in-depth answer on this one! We do have several questions submitted by LordJSauce. I will combine all of them and ask you one by one. This number is 11.
“1. How does Cryowar protect itself from cheating or any exploits? How do you plan to identify and punish violators?”
Alessandro: Cryowar will feature world-class anti-cheat software to identify and punish cheaters. As a competitive game, we have a zero cheating policy to defend fairness in the game.
“2. Can you tell us about the ranking system? Will, there be seasons, and will every game mode have a different ranking?”
Alessandro: The game features seasons, yes, which should end after 2 or 3 months each, and also, yes, every game mode will have its own leaderboard.
“3. Will there be weekly tournaments much like the DOTA 2 Battle Cups?”
Alessandro: We are planning on having a variety of tournaments where players could join to receive rewards, better than the usual ones. Some tournaments will be automatically generated by the server, while other, more important tournaments, will be announced and managed manually by us or the people who want to organize a specific tournament.
“4. Are there any plans to add bushes (for hiding) or activatable traps and other obstacles that may contribute to gameplay depth?”
Alessandro: Bushes and other elements will be implemented. Also, traps will be present, and they will work in favour of the player controlling a certain area.
“5. What can we expect in the open beta? Will there be more heroes and modes available?”
Alessandro: At this moment, we are aiming on releasing 5 heroes for the open beta test.
“6. How do you plan to balance out the game? Will the community have a say on how and what heroes will be nerfed or buffed?”
Alessandro: We are always listening to the community, but keep in mind that we can also analyze gameplay statistics from the server-side, so we would be aware if something is unbalanced or difficult to use.
“7. And the last question from me, is there a Practice mode wherein players can hone their skills and develop strategies but don’t have the risk of losing MMR?”
Alessandro: We will grant the option to play in non-ranked matches to test skills, character combinations, and new game modes.
STILLZ: LordJSauce, we have evaluated your questions pretty well I think. Hopefully, you are satisfied with the answers! Number 12 is from FrancoisGirard:
“12. Will you widen the list of heroes in the game? Not just three skillful warriors.”
Alessandro: Actually, we have got 5 characters already working in the game, and if you look carefully through the news and posts, you’ll notice that 2 more characters are being designed and worked on, but still not available to play. We have many more amazing characters being developed, and we are making sure that each one of them feels unique. We plan to release new characters with each major update, plus more skins and animations, for previously implemented heroes.
STILLZ: Absolutely amazing stuff! I told you guys, so much more is on the way and this is just the beginning! Be sure to consistently pay attention to our socials, regular content is always provided. This goes to every social platform! 13 now, Kiyanari:
“13. Maybe a QoL question, but how was it decided that the technical betas do not have any patch releases or announcements regarding confirmed bugs and temp fixes?”
Alessandro: We are currently focused on pure development and things change very fast, so it would be confusing for the players to read a patch note at that stage. We will probably start releasing them with the open beta.
STILLZ: This particular question we have been getting a lot but I think it is pretty thoughtful and smart to do so, to not create additional confusion! Awesome! Now. Last but not least, coming at number 14 is Kira
“14. How many people are on your team? And how was the process of creating a game from scratch? How long did you think about how to do it right? And how did you come to the conclusion that now the game looks exactly like this and nothing else?”
Alessandro: Well, this is a huge question, actually — multiple big questions. We are all veteran developers. Most of us have 10+ years of experience in making video games, so the process of creating a game is well established now, and it’s a very long topic. Mostly, we follow the industry standard, the designers pitch many games, and the entire core team evaluates what would be a good project for our budget, time, team skills, and technology. Then we start prototyping, and if the result turns out to be a fun product, we start the development of the actual game. At this moment, purely for the gaming development we have more than 20 people working on it (the whole Cryowar team consist of about 54 people currently). Most people know each other from previous job experiences, which helps create a nice working environment.
The idea behind our graphic style came from the desire to make something a little bit different from the classic sci-fi or medieval genre games, and then we realized that merging the 2 settings would have created something original. This way, the Cryowar world would be about a parallel universe where a medieval society has met technology too soon, and it has created a perfect setting for us. The decision to use realistic graphics, not cartoonish ones, were driven by the fact that we wanted to attract a mature player base that can enjoy a competitive game, and now can understand the power of the blockchain technology used to empower the game’s features. We want to bring the good side of this technology into our game.
STILLZ: I think we have addressed the majority of the questions by our community! So much precious information we have gathered, and I am 100% sure that everyone is super excited about Cryowar! Thank you it was a blast! Now it is time to get our special guest on stage. He has some exciting news for us! Good things don’t end here we will also do our promotion. Stay tuned. Keep an eye on the discord server. Now let’s invite our special guest — none other than the Cryowar CFO and co-founder himself, Mr. Mariyan Boychev!
