Research shows that consumers in the key markets of CryptoFlix have low access to high speed Internet and generally use older smartphones and tablet computers with low resolution screens.

As established VOD platforms are now competing on ever higher resolutions now focusing on 4K, and with SD resolution slowly but surely being phased out, the gap between developing and developed countries gets bigger and bigger.

The CryptoFlix platform will have a new and completely different approach to streaming and home entertainment. Instead of competing on larger and larger file size and higher and higher resolution, CryptoFlix introduces YourDef — a dynamic, automatically adjusted and customizable resolution that is designed to offer the best user experience based on screen type and Internet speed. The platform pricing model will be based on the data consumed as we say: Why pay for something you cannot possibly use to its fullest potential?

Whereas 4K movie file sizes are as big as 32 GB, we deliver the same movie in less than 150 MB. And this doesn’t mean any less quality when watching on a low resolution older smartphone.

Nonetheless, CryptoFlix will indeed offer movies in HD resolution — we just say that less is just as good for some users.

4K and HD do not only work as a barrier for consumers without access to high speed Internet but also as a perfect gatekeeper for producers whose movies cannot meet these standards. This means that a lot of locally produced hit movies will never become available through established VOD platforms.

To emphasize this problem there are currently three local movies in the Indian iTunes top ten in a country where local films account for an estimated 92% of the market share.

With YourDef, CryptoFlix aims to secure better opportunities for producers and consumers alike.
