When we talk about Ark, it’s mostly about DPoS, Delegates, the Roadmap, its features and many more.

You may have also heard about the ACF, but what exactly is it? This article aims to take a closer look at the Ark Community Fund.

  1. What is the Ark Community Fund (ACF)?

The ACF is an initiative run by the members of the Ark-Community. An election for the 5 members of ACF-Board takes place every 6 months.

The main point behind it, is to support ideas and projects of Ark-Community members, who benefit the Ark Ecosystem. It is considered to be an addition to the Core-Development team of Ark.

Important to know is that, the ACF is separated from the Ark Crew members. According to the Concept Paper, it is planned to create an Advisory Board with 2 or 3 Ark Crew members.

The ACF is running its own delegate, you can find the proposal here.

2. Members of the ACF-Board

The last voting for the ACF-Board took place at the 16/11/2017 and these 5 candidates had the most votes and are therefore the members of the current Board:

  • yokoama
  • goldenpepe
  • sleepdeficit
  • faustbrian
  • reconnico

3. Beneficial role for the community

ACF makes it possible for community members, who want to donate or contribute to community purposes to have a contact point.

On the other hand, it represents a sanctuary to request funding for projects, which support the Ark Ecosystem. Those requests should include:

  • Develop tools
  • Software
  • Hardware

4. Assignments

The ACF-Members ensure the supervision and the smooth running of the structure and processes. This includes the review of project’s inputs with further clarification, whether the projects are:

  • Approved
  • Rejected
  • Returned
  • On-hold
  • In progress
  • Completed

Furthermore, they are in charge of the delegate “acf”, through the daily sending of funds to escrow.

5. Previous and latest projects

In the following you can see the completed and published projects of ACF:

  • ARK Wallet Competition
  • Collection of Ark media files
  • Ark-TrueBlockWeight
  • SwiftyArk
  • Ark-Faucet
  • Rust Wrapper for the Ark Ecosystem
  • Ark-PHP-Client
  • Laravel-Ark
  • Logo Contest
  • Ark-Academy

There was also a transparency report posted on the 01/11/2017 by jarunik on reddit.

Currently there is a new website in planning.

6. Funding

In the following link, you can check the incoming funds and the outgoing payments of the ACF.

7. Voting Procedure

The next voting takes place in May 2018. Anyone in possession of Ark is eligible to vote for the ACF-Board. Here is how to participate in the voting procedure:

  1. Select the candidate you support from the candidate list.
  2. The vote can be placed by sending 0.00000001 Ark to the address representing your candidate. The address you’re sending from is the voting-wallet and there every Ark you’re holding counts as a vote.

The amount you’re sending is automatically used as a fund for the ACF. For further information regarding the voting procedure, click here.

8. Summary

While doing the research I came across very interesting points, including the inaccessibility to a list containing information about payments and their purposes. Furthermore, it would be interesting to access a list of recent and rejected projects.

With that being said, more transparency and better accessibility to those information is needed.

On the other hand, the ACF-Board-Members are available to answer questions through a channel on the Slack-Workspace of “ArkEcosystem” called #communityfund.

In summary, it is vital to understand how important and beneficial the ACF is for the Ark-Community and its members. In fact, it represents a chance to improve the Ark Ecosystem, while depending on the Ark-Members to have the drive and the passion to realize their ideas.
