What is Edgeware DAO?

Edgeware is a DAO deployment-focused smart contract platform that is scalable, sovereign, and collectively owned. It has a sizable public treasury.

Edgeware is a blockchain for smart contracts that compiles to a client runtime, which may be produced and run natively or inside a Wasm virtual machine. In either case, a Wasm virtual machine that can be used to run later versions of the client runtime received from the network is included when an Edgeware native binary is produced.

The networking code and other components provided by Parity Substrate are interfaced with by the client runtime. PBFT con- sensus, proof-of-stake block validation, and finality are all components of the substrate. The client’s only duties in the end are downloading, running, and validating blocks obtained from the network.

A block is defined as follows:
• Header := Parent + ExtrinsicsRoot + StorageRoot + Digest
• Block := Header + Extrinsics + Justifications

The block and header formats appear to be similar to conventional blockchains at first glance, but the concepts of accounts and contracts have been expanded and abstracted into an extrinsic. Roots are kept in a Base-16 Modified Merkle Tree (“Trie”) data structure within the header.

Extrinsics specify the information and operations required to run a chain. They are similar to transactions but have a wider scope, making any change to the chain’s state an extrinsic. Individual transactions, groups of transactions, or other kinds of state changes can all be expressed as extrinsics thanks to the additional abstraction layer. Extrinsics are defined in modules, and any client is free to provide a legitimate extrinsic for the next block.
