The Future of our History Nodes

Since last month’s video about EOS History nodes from EOS Weekly, there’s been much discussion about the cost and future markets for history nodes.

Though it is a considerable expense, for now, we will continue running FREE PUBLIC history nodes for EOS Community.

tldr; We’ll probably switch from Mongo to Hyperion for both Mainnet and Jungle, and also run Light History for both.

Mainnet Nodes

  • We run a Mongo history node which consists of the Mongo DB plugin with the API we made for it: http://history.cryptolions.io/ . The popular block explorer Bloks.io, once the main user of our history node, now only uses it for its RAM explorer:
  • We are syncing the Light History Plugin from Grey Mass, which only keeps recent chain history.
  • We are testing Hyperion from EOS Rio, and so far we’re extremely impressed.

Most likely, will switch from our Mongo History to Hyperion. We’re proud of having supported Mongo and will continue doing so for the short-term, but it seems that Hyperion will be in higher demand, and we’ll shift our resources to that and to the Light History Node.

Separately, we’re setting up premium History Node services, and we’ve just started experimenting with Liquid Dapps and their DSP community.

Jungle Nodes

  • We run a Mongo History for the Jungle Testnet. As with our mainnet Mongo Node, we’re testing Hyperion and considering switching over. 600 GB instead of 4 TB is very attractive, especially for the limited budget we have as block producers #38. (🗳️ Vote for cryptolions1!)
  • We recently shut down our Classic History for the Jungle and switched to the Light History from Grey Mass.
  • Big shout outs to EOS Rio for running a Jungle Hyperion, and to eosDAC for running a State History on the Jungle.

This recent announcement will probably not change things too much, but you never know.
