Interesting, and so true.
Apparently anger is higher on the emotional scale than emotions such as apathy, depression, fear or hopelessness. Although anger does not feel comfortable it is a mover and shaker and can be a stepping stone to more positive states of mind such as relief, hopefulness, calm and then joy.
Interestingly, because an angry attitude is often more offensive or invasive to others than a silent albeit depressed or hopeless state of mind, as humans we often tend to discourage each other from states of anger. Which effectively can cause a person to move down the emotional scale back to states such as fear/hopelessness/depression, instead of upwards on the scale.
Of course anger is not a state we want to hang around in. But if one knows that it is sometimes a sign of an improving state, and can be used to ease into more positive emotions, then maybe the acknowledgement and compassion can be less of a struggle to achieve.
Thanks for the great article!
