Would You Live Here?
The past year or so I’ve seen this sign just around the corner from my house. A few weeks ago I decided to investigate.
I started by looking up the website. Condos close to I-85! How nice! $685 for a two bedroom. What a great price for a Charlotte commuter. Look at those pictures.
I dug deeper and realized the sign was the beginning of the complex. It was between the two public housing projects I described earlier. In fact, it used to be a low income apartment complex. I drove through the circle to take a look.
I think the website was a little misleading! Based on factors I’ve described before, anyone driving through would know exactly where they are: the ghetto. The property manager reportedly requested a fence and extra police patrols to make his complex seem “safer.”
I’m not sure what to think about Circle Oaks Village. The realty company is presenting the complex as an investment opportunity. The former apartment dwellers are already priced out of the renovated units. Most of the buildings looked empty, and the rental office wasn’t open when I drove by. So…would you live here?
