The Life of A Crystal Skull Explorer

— more exciting than what you saw in the last Indiana Jones Film!!!

Hello dear Medium readers, this is my first article/story and I am excited to be here.

My name is Joshua Shapiro and since April of 1983 (over 36 years) I have been involved in studying one of the world’s greatest mysteries, which is known today as the Crystal Skulls. What is a crystal skull all about, well that is why I am here, I will tell you of course!

Now you might notice to your left in my photo, that I am holding one of the crystal skulls we have in our personal collection. This crystal skull was carved by an expert Brazilian carver back in 1998, and we have called him (you see every crystal skull gets a name by his/her owner, or we call them a guardian) Portal of Light or his true name, to honor the country of Brazil, where the smoky quartz came from used in the carving is Portal de Luz (which is in Portuguese). He, I feel a masculine energy around this crystal skull, was a gift to me by an ex-wife and I received this crystal skull at a conference held in Sedona, Arizona, in the spring of 1999, where I was one of the speakers.

So as the name implies, yes-sir-ree, a crystal skull is a human like formed skull created from a type of gemstone (although the first crystal skulls uncovered in the world in the 1800’s were found near ancient Mesoamerican ruins in Mexico and were all from quartz crystal — smoky quartz is one type of quartz crystal which ranges in color from a light shade of gray to black). Today we know of four types of crystal skulls:

A) Ancient or very old crystal skulls — these are crystal skulls believed to have been created over 2000 years ago and older (could be thousands of years ago, hundreds of thousands of years ago or even older) — using some form of advance technologies (like with lasers or created even by the power of the mind — this would pre-suppose advanced civilizations existing in our past such as Atlantis, of which many people feel this category of crystal skull can come from BTW) to create them. In form, these type of crystal skulls are very well done and elaborate and to those individual who are sensitive to subtle energy fields (working with your inner spiritual gifts) they can field a very strong or intense energy around them.

We have no way to know or date scientifically how old this category of crystal skull is. We do work with gifted psychics and spiritual mediums who can receive their possible histories. We also have legends from various Indigenous cultures who also discuss the histories of some of the crystal skulls but these methods are not very scientific. Further, it is assumed if one has a ancient or very old crystal skull, they are more important or valuable, but this is not necessarily the case at all. So therefore, many people wish to have an ancient skull, and there are offers of such like in e-bay and facebook to purchase such a crystal skull but may in fact be a modern one made, to look like one.

In any case, people who have had contact with one of the more recognized ancient crystal skulls have reported having some profound or life changing experiences. An example of such could include a healing of a very challenging health condition or the reversal of an injury to the body that the medical world can not help. Or for some people after meeting an ancient crystal skull, they have a profound dream or their creative or spiritual gifts are enhanced. There is no set pattern for what might happen to a person who meets directly and in person such a crystal skull but for many people their life shifted in some positive way where they had more energy and joy in their life.

Here I am during a scientific research conducted with various crystal skulls in the science room at a high school in Indiana in 2008, supported by the Syfy Channel, as a part of the filming they did for their special on the Crystal Skulls before their documentary show aired before the last Indiana Jones film. Here you see me sharing “Portal de Luz” but in the background, sitting on a lazy-susan, is the most famous crystal skull in the world, the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull — an almost exact duplicate of our human bone skull which was featured in the Syfy show with the skulls guardian Bill Homann, who participated in our research and tests. The ability to share this picture and show this famous crystal skull is granted by Bill Homann who currently travels with this skull.

B) Old Crystal Skulls — this is the category given to a crystal skull that is believed to have been created over 100 years ago and by my definition less then a thousand years ago. The form and shape of this crystal skull generally is less sophisticated but still recognized as a crystal skull. The two crystal skulls I can think of, fairly known in the world and on display in museums in Europe are the British Museum Crystal Skull at the British Museum in London (since 1898) and, the Paris Crystal Skull, at first on display at the Trocadero Museum in Paris in 1878 and then around 2008 or so, it was moved to the the Museé du Quay Branly near the Eiffel Tower. Both of these crystal skulls are made of clear quartz and a single piece. See below a visit I had with the British Museum Crystal Skull in 2009.

The British Museum Crystal Skull is hosted in a glass case in this Museum. The museum (as you can see on the wall to your left, the signs with information) believes there crystal skull is a fake and was made by some modern carvers. This analysis is based on some test they have done. But my belief is this skull was an attempt by Mesoamerican people to duplicate the Mitchell-Hedges Skull. It was one of the crystal skulls first out.

C) Contemporary or Modern Crystal Skulls — sometime in the mid-1980’s, there was an interest by people fascinated to have their own crystal skulls, that modern carvers predominately in Brazil and China (who are very skilled at this task) decided to carve new crystal skulls. At first the skulls that were carved were made from quartz but now, here in 2019, crystal skulls are being carved of every type of gemstone you can imagine. The modern carvers use wheels and saws that are diamond tipped, one of the hardest substance in our world to let them make very precise carvings now. Again, see below for a photograph that shows some of the modern carved crystal skulls in our collection interlaced with a few older skulls.

On the date this photo was taken we were being interviewed by a Japanese film crew — and a few of our friends who lived in the Seattle area (we lived there from 2011–2017) brought their skulls too. The cloth holding the skulls we created by women living on a reed island in Lake Titicaca. Here you can see crystal skulls come in all sizes, made of many different gemstones. The large Rose Quartz Skull in the front of the photo actually was done by our chinese carvers, has a separate jaw piece and is very close to the dimensions of a human skull.

Ok then, so now you know what a crystal skull is all about. But why do I call myself a Crystal Skull Explorer and how did this journey all start? Let me take you back to April of 1983. The place is the Ram Metaphysical Bookstore in San Jose, California. It is early afternoon and the friend I am staying at in San Jose with, drives me over to this bookstore. I know the owner Francoise quite well, we are good friends, I met her at a local spiritual conference in the area a few months before and she told me about her bookstore. This is my first chance to visit with her. One last note, I am also an Aries like Francoise, of which the ram is our astrological sign and her son who passed away some years earlier, had the same birthday in April.

Anyway, while I sharing with Francoise about my first book I have ever written (Journeys of an Aquarian Age Networker, 1983, self published and out of print) Francoise pulls out a photo of a crystal skull, which looked like the photo shown below:

The ancient amethyst crystal skull known as “Ami” which means friend in French, the name given to this crystal skull by a former guardian, Al Rameriz, the first crystal skull I had a chance to see in person, which basically was the beginning of becoming a crystal skull explorer in the spring of 1983 — what do you feel from the photo?

I have a strong response to seeing this photo — I felt inside of myself a strong vibration shaking me and then about a half hour later, the table the picture was rest up started to shake violently with the table, as an earthquake happened about 100 miles south of us. However, just from looking at this photo, a voice spoke to me in my mind (coming from this skull??) that said, “We, the crystal skulls are returning to the public’s attention and here to help humanity to create a peaceful world! So what are you (Joshua) going to do about it?”

Well here we are 36 years later, have traveled all over the world (North America, South America, Europe and Australia) meeting all kinds of crystal skulls with various guardians, meeting crystal skull carvers, giving hundreds of public talks, helping to setup crystal skull conferences, writing a number of books (see the link to our website in my bio) and even at times getting a chance to do media interviews. When the latest Indiana Jones film came out in 2008, in the spring which featured one large crystal skull and later we saw twelve more, during this time I had more interviews than I can count. So what I would like to do to finish this article is share a few interesting stories of my personal encounters with the crystal skulls so you have a good sensing of what they are all about. How does that sound?

About 2004 in Belgium (while living in Holland) — our crystal skull “Portal de Luz” is tested by a group of practitioners who use what is called “A Lecher Antenna” to measure any special energies that might be emanating out of this crystal skull. “Portal de Luz”, as shown in earlier photos is a modern crystal skull from smoky quartz, mined in Brazil and carved with diamond tip tools by an expert Brazilian carver and is almost the same size as a human bone skull, a little bit smaller. Here is a photo taken during the test:

The Lecher Antenna is like a dowsing rod except it has numbers on the side used to measure specific energies. The teacher for this group said the skull was just a stone and they wouldn’t be able to measure any special energies how our crystal skull, which we believe has a living consciousness showed the researchers!!

So as explained in the caption above, the practitioner of the Lecher Antenna can set it to test for specific ranges of energy or an electro-magnetic energy by setting the antenna to a number. When that energy reading is encountered the antenna flips by itself. What the researchers found, and they did this test three times, that “Portal” (as we affectionately call him) was emanating the vibrational frequencies of the five human senses!! Next up is a crop circle experience ….

About 2005 in England in a Crop Circle near the Stones Circles in Avebury, the southern part of England … this was my time to visit my first crop circle, it had the shape of a Yin-Yang symbol at its center with various rings form by the crops around it. The first time I saw it, I kind of wandered into it — as some friends where sharing a megalithic structure nearby. When we looked over at the farm close to there we saw quite a few people walking around in the farmer’s field and realized a crop circle had appeared. It was pretty amazing how this field had been transformed and you could feel an energy inside of it. A few days later I visited with one of the most well-known and respected British Crop Circle Researchers, David Kingston and during our meeting not only did I tell him about the crop circle but I asked if there was a way to see if having a crystal skull within the crop circle might change the energy there. He was intrigued and we sent up a time to go with him to this crop circle near Avebury. But first a quick story he told us …

About this time the British Parliament was having a debate what to decide about all the crop circles appearing throughout southern England. They decided since the farmers don’t protect their fields, it had to be like two guys going in during the night to make them. However, on the very next day they received a report from a military base, that has ultra top security to get in, that a crop circle formed on the base, I wonder out loud, who was listening in to the Parliament debate?

So David (forget unfortunately he is deceased, one of the nicest human beings you would ever want to meet) brought with him an electronic volt meter which could measure the electro-magnetic field in the crop circle with a value from -100 to +100. After we arrived at the crop circle and were walking towards it center David noticed on the meter when he was near a form made in the crop circle — like the circular ring of crops, the meter would show a value over 0, and when we were in an empty space it went back to zero.

Our goal for this experiment (see photo below) was to first measure the volt reading on the device at the very center of the crop circle. Then put the crystal skull at this center point and see if the energy changed. Then have me do a meditation with “Portal de Luz” near the center point with music (“Portal’s” favorite song is Pachelbel’s Canon in D, so I listened to that with headphones on my portal cd player, no mp3 players yet) and then put the crystal skull into the center after the meditation and see what the energy reading was — so did you follow all of this?

So here I am in the crop circle near the center sitting down with my portal cd player and headphones, holding the crystal skull in my hands. You can see the ring of crops behind me and a flat area I am sitting in.

Now here is the results of this, as they say in the UK, wee little experiment. The measurement on the volt meter at the very center of the crop circle was “0” however even though this reading didn’t change once “Portal” was placed at this center point we could see inside of the crystal skull what looked like a swirling energy moving up very fast and then very quickly swirling down — so the energy here most have been negating itself, was my thought thus a “0” reading.

Then I did about a 10 minute meditation with “Portal”. I recall as I closed my eyes and focused on the music, I felt an energy barrier or cone of energy totally surround me. It was like I was in my own little world. My eyes seemed to flutter wildly at times (nothing I could do to stop it) and about halfway through the song, I felt inspired to sing with it and thought I was in perfect harmony with the music. After the music ended, it took me a wee bit to be able to bring myself into our earthly reality — David messaged the energy around “Portal” and it was now at +100 and also after we placed Portal in the center of the crop circle, the energy reading also went to maximum value of +100. So what conclusion could we make? Well, obviously if you work with a crystal skull that is activated — it can access some pretty powerful energies and it makes sense why various indigenous elders say for them the crystal skulls are important for their spiritual ceremonies and are considered sacred.

Also that a newly carved crystal skull could have this impact upon the crop circle might be a clue that higher level intelligences or spirits can use quartz crystal as a doorway to work in our dimensional existence and produce special energies that emanate through the crystal skulls.

Well, I know this first article is long, and who knows who is gonna be reading it, and as you can imagine I have many stories and personal experiences to share, but there is one more I wish to mention here, which is kind of still a mystery for me, about a crystal skull I am having a telepathic communication with but in this lifetime I have never seen it in person, it is called The Blue Crystal Skull — I will just summarize my journey to Peru to find it as I have an over 300 page book with my travel logs if you a re curious.

The Search for the Blue Crystal Skull in the northern part of Peru, high up in the Andes Mountains 1997–2002, 3 journeys …

This new journey starts — when I traveled with an ex-wife to Peru I think in 1991. Our tour guide to Machu Picchu, a recognized archaeologist who I met before and told me he heard about a crystal skull being in Peru, did a strange thing around me, while we ate our breakfast at our hotel in Lima. For now reason at all, he stood up at breakfast, pointed at me and send in Spanish (had to wait for the translation) I knew where a crystal skull existed in Peru.

At first I had no idea what he was talking about but then I felt my body being energetically pulled to the northern part of Peru, where I had not traveled before. Then I had a vision in my mind, I saw in a jungle area up there, a procession of Indian-looking people walking single file with a shaman or priest in front and he was hold in both hands an object out from his body. I knew it was a crystal skull and when I thought about what color it could be, I laughed to myself as sky blue (the whitish blue in the sky) is my favorite color, if I knew of one it was probably this color. So the search for the Blue Skull began.

This experience would not leave me and all of a sudden I started to feel this crystal skull appearing around me — in front of me off to my left, floating in the air at about a 45 degree angle from my head. Of course this is what I see in my mind’s eye. By 1997, the inward desire to see this skull went out of control and I worked with friends in Lima who had a tour agency, and we setup a trip to go to the northern part of Peru with no set schedule. I had to quit my full-time computer job with a cellular phone company so I had no timeframe to come back.

To make a long story short, (so if you wish to know more you might ask us about our book — see the cover below) — I found or was eventually guided to a lagoon high up in the Andes Mountains, near the border with Ecuador, where local shaman do a cleansing ritual — behind the lagoon was a sacred mountain where I saw the face of a skull on its side — and again had visions which showed me this crystal skull (which I believe is not in the physical dimension for now) when it was on Earth, was housed in a Lemurian Temple in this region. Then (if you believe these legends) when Lemuria or Mu sank, it was taken to Atlantis. Also when Lemuria sank, this how the Andes Mountains rose. When Atlantis sank, the Blue Skull was returned to this area and now exists with descendants of Lemuria, who have an underground city in a higher dimensional reality of the Earth, in the mountain behind the lagoon. Why was I drawn to this area (if I haven’t convinced you I am totally crazy with these comments) is I had past lifetimes in both Lemuria and Atlantis and worked with this crystal skull in those lifetimes. Anyway here are two images related to this Blue Skull:

To reach the Lagoon, we had to rent mules, as we were in high elevation (14,000 feet) in the Andes, as we had to go up a mountain, and then at the top was a flat area with gigantic stone boulders strewn on the ground and then we came into a canyon to ride toward the lagoon. Actually this was my first time to do serious riding and not only did I thoroughly enjoy it but I picked up quickly how to ride the mule (a past life ability?) ….

This is the front cover of our book, I updated the book in late 2018 and also added a new section about a magical stone door that exists near Lake Titicaca called The Gateway of the Gods we saw in 2009. Well dear reader, you know should know something about what the crystal skulls are all about and what can happen to you if you ever decide to have a crystal skull of your own and become a guardian.
