I am full of empathy. I just don’t think men deserve more hand holding and special treatment than anyone else. I know why that turns men off, especially white men. They expect to be treated with more deference because that’s how the world has worked for so long. I’m not sorry that things have changed. And I don’t know why anyone would be astonished that I don’t believe a racist or misogynist person should be allowed to continue to create a hostile work environment for their co-workers just because he’s a guy and lots of guys think the way he does. How do I know he’s created a hostile work environment? Besides having worked with men who believe what this guy does and know how they treat the women around them (all the while claiming to be progressive and liberal-minded), I’m taking a page from your book and making up facts not in evidence. If you can decide he’s an incredibly young and misguided boy who just needs our kindness and understanding, I can decide he treats his co-workers in the same way that I’ve experienced.
