9 Strategies to make you more productive at work
We all have the same amount of hours in a day, and yet others just seem to be more productive than most. Sometimes we find our days going out of control that at the end of the day we find ourselves not accomplishing anything worthwhile. So how can you get more out of your day at work?
Here are 9 strategies that I use that can help you create more productivity in your work life.
Learn what wastes your time and then get rid of them. Most of us do not even know what steals our time during the day. If you can learn and identify what is distracting you and then take steps to get rid of them and you’ll be more productive. Think about one thing, which if you changed right now, would have the biggest positive influence on your productivity. Then focus on ways you can find a solution to moving forward. For me it was social media, I could not go an hour without checking my social media notifications. So I deleted my social media apps and my productivity shot through the roof.
Organise your work space. A cluttered work space will not help you to be productive at all. You’ll spend more time looking for your tools than actually performing your work. Organise your space in a way that allows you to gain access to what you need for the day as fast as possible. Do this at the end of your work day and get prepared for the next day.
Set time to accomplish your tasks. Setting personal deadlines on your work can help you focus and help you meet your goals. I do this with every work I take one. If it can be usually done in an hour, I aim to do it in forty five minutes. This method provides me with energy and focus I need to complete the task. And if I do complete it in the time I set, I get to have free minutes to do something else or use as a head start.
Set Big goals. Big goals release energy. Having big goals gets you motivated, so look at your big goals every morning for at least 5 min. This method will add energy to your reservoir of energy for the day.
Get to work early. Getting to work late is really a bad start to the day. You’ll be playing catch up for the most part of the day. To get to work early, you need to start working up early. This habit alone will strengthen your willpower so it serves you more dutifully in the key areas of your life and work.
Drink water. Water is known to add energy to your body. When you’re dehydrated you’ll have far less energy. And therefore, you’ll get less done.
Stop multi-tasking. Psychologists have found attempting to do several tasks at once can result in lost time and productivity. To the best of your ability, set up a work environment that encourages the performing of one task at a time. Practice mono tasking every day, start with just spending 5 minutes working on one task while ignoring everything else and then increase that time by 5 minutes each day.
Turn off notifications. How many times have you ignored your phone notifications to continue working? Turn off your notifications during working hours and set time aside to check and respond to them. This will allow you to focus on your tasks and not let you be distracted by the incoming notifications.
Prioritize your work. Start with the most important item and then the next and so on and so forth. Work on and focus on the items that need to be done today, and then set time to do items that need to be completed in the next few days. This will make you focus on what is mostly important at the moment.
Try working on changing one habit at a time, you’ll have a higher chance of success. Spend about two weeks working on it and then move on to the next habit. I hope these 8 hacks will be of value to you.
