CS for All Starts with Teachers

In the last several years, the US has seen an unprecedented growth in computer science (CS) education, largely in classrooms led by teachers who are learning how to teach CS. NYC is no exception; launched in September 2015, the city’s CS4All initiative aims to expand access to high-quality CS education to all 1.1 million students in 1,700 public schools by educating nearly 5,000 teachers over 10 years. At the same time, new teacher preparation programs are in development at universities in NYC and across the country, which are crucial to the long-term plan to create equitable, sustainable access to CS for all students both in the city and nationwide.
